Classic Elegance at The Drake Hotel

I arrived in Chicago on a cold, blustery day and couldn’t wait to arrive at my destination. I was headed to The Drake Hotel, located right off “The Magnificent Mile,” and within walking distance to the Lakefront Trail, the Water Tower Mall, and most importantly, a Hershey’s store with the best milkshake of the month I have ever tasted. Recently inducted into the Historic Hotels of America, over the years The Drake has hosted royalty, heads-of-state and well-known gangsters. Known in the past for its luxury and opulence, the hotel still delivers on those promises today. When I stepped out of the car a doorman immediately met me with offers to help me carry my bag and directions to the check in desk. Within minutes I was checked in and directed to the elevators to take me to my floor.

The opulent lobby led me to the elevators, which invoked an old world charm with their paneled wood, mirrors and settee along the back wall. I was probably the only person trying to take pictures of the elevator to send to my family! My room did not disappoint either. Done in a simple, refined style, my bed was piled high with pillows and covered with the softest thread count sheets imaginable. The room came stocked with an ample, if pricey, supply of snacks and alcohol. My room came complete with a small office/work space, HD TVs, and Italian marble bathrooms.

The one downside to me; wifi is not free unless you are a Hilton Honors member. Several restaurants are available on site, including a morning coffee shop. I stopped in for a quick parfait and coke. After a morning of shopping, the Drake offers High Tea in the afternoon for an optional fee. I didn’t get to try the tea, but a friend did and she raved about the offerings.

Unknown to me at the time, the Drake Hotel is also listed on Illinois’ Most Haunted places. Ghostly activity is said to abound, but during my stay I encountered nothing except a sense of relaxation. My only problem with the Drake was I didn’t get to stay long enough!

I was provided a stay at the Drake by Kraft as part of my #Caprisuncrew experience. I was not asked to review the hotel. All opinions are my own.
