I wasn’t sure what to expect as we followed the directions through downtown Louisville to the Galt House Hotel. As we rounded the corner and caught site of the hotel, immense was the first word to enter my mind. Comprised of two buildings, the Rivue Tower and the Suite Tower, the hotel has 1300 rooms, including 650 suites. When we arrived visitors for four conventions were swarming about the hotel. I was afraid we were looking at a long wait to check in and a nosy stay, but was pleasantly surprised to find I was wrong on both counts. I was checked in within five minutes by a friendly staff member and directed to my suite, to find it quiet and peaceful. I will say the elevator was always cramped and there was a wait, so factor a few extra minutes of wait time into plans.
Our suite, located on the 8th floor, overlooked WaterFront park, giving a commanding view of the Ohio River and the rooftop pool. Comprised of a living/dining area, a bedroom with two queen beds and a bathroom, this room could have easily slept six. The living dining area offered a television, perfect for allowing the kids to catch a few cartoons, a desk for catching up on any work, and a mini-fridge. The dining table, which seated four, was a nice touch for anyone wanting to enjoy takeout after a long day.
The bedroom was spacious and featured another television, which was nice, because I could browse through the channels while checking email without disturbing the sporting events the guys watched in the living room. One of my favorite features of the suite was a hallway mirror, complete with a moveable makeup and shelf, located across the hall from the bathroom. I could put on my makeup and fix my hair without disturbing anyone or having them disturb me!
A concierge desk is located on the first floor and is equipped with helpful staff members. They were vital to directing us to area attractions and providing maps of both the downtown and greater Louisville area. The Galt House hotel is located minutes away from many of Louisville’s major attractions, including the Belle of Louisville, the Mohammad Ali center, the Frazier Museum, the Louisville Slugger museum and the Kentucky Science Center. For anyone who would rather not walk to the attractions, the Toonerville Trolley stops directly in front of the hotel and offers free transportation to many of the major attractions. Hungry? The hotel has seven restaurants, ranging from the upscale Rivue, located on the 25th floor of the Rivue tower, to the casual Thelma’s 24 hour Deli, Coffee and Pizza.
I was pleased to receive convenience, comfort and friendly service at the Galt House Hotel. It’s large enough to hold major conventions while still offering classic Southern hospitality.
If you go:
Wi-fi is complimentary in public areas. In room wi-fi costs $5.95 per day for basic service and $9.95 a day for premium streaming service.
Two parking garages, with a total of 3200 spaces, are available. The cost of self parking is $15 per day and $25 a day for Valet parking.
Getting in and out of the garage is as easy as swiping the hotel key for instant access.
We received a complementary stay at the Galt House Hotel. All opinions are my own.
