10 Mouthwatering Thanksgiving Side Dishes

Can you believe Thanksgiving is only a couple of weeks away? It’s time to spend a day with family, devouring delicious dinners, or celebrating Friendsgiving with those special people in your life. Maybe you’ve been wondering what to include in your menu plan. We’re here to help with 10 Mouthwatering Thanksgiving Side Dishes.

10 Mouthwatering Thanksgiving Sides

These family favorites grace our table each year. Along with our classic caramel pie and wild rice dressing, these are staples we return to year after year. Most are simple, easy-to-prepare recipes. All of them earn compliments whenever we prepare them.

10 Mouthwatering Thanksgiving Side Dishes

Most of these recipes are naturally gluten-free, while the rest can be easily adapted for the needs of the Celiacs in the family.

Butternut Squash Gratin– I’m a huge fan of butternut squash. I snap them up whenever I can find them at the grocery store. When I had overstocked on squash, I needed new recipes. Thankfully, I found this one in a Woman’s World magazine and have been making it ever since.

Potatoes Au Gratin-– With the deliciousness of cream, parmesan cheese, and fresh herbs, this dish is always a hit.

Sweet and Sour Green Beans I discovered a version of this recipe when my daughter was young. She didn’t like green beans, but she loved bacon. This recipe combines a tangy sauce, the goodness of green beans, and plenty of bacon. Since trying these beans, my daughter has requested them at every holiday dinner.

Delicious Corn Salad Recipe– Another recipe that has been in our family for years, passed down through generations, is this corn salad recipe. It’s just as good with canned corn as fresh corn.

Bacon & Blue Cheese Deviled Eggs– I adapted a classic deviled egg recipe to include two of my favorites; bacon and blue cheese. After all, everything is better with bacon. These eggs are always the first item to disappear whenever I take them to dinner.

Cauliflower Mashed Potatoes Recipe– I created this dish when we had an abundance of cauliflower. My family, who are not cauliflower fans, discovered they enjoyed it. Plus, it’s naturally gluten-free and has a vegan option for when our vegan friends visit.

Easy Cranberry Relish Recipe This was one of the side dishes my mom always insisted be on the table at Thanksgiving and Christmas. After she passed away, I carried on the tradition. It goes well with ham or turkey, is naturally gluten-free, and can be adapted to use less sugar if you prefer a tarter relish.

Southern Mashed Potato CasseroleI found this recipe in a Taste of Home magazine under the name “Party Potatoes” shortly after I married. I changed it to suit our tastes and only serve it at Thanksgiving and Christmas because it is so fattening. My family makes sure to put in a request every year for the “holiday potatoes” in case I forget to put them on our recipe list. If you need a gluten-free version, omit the cracker topping.

Cornbread Salad-I originally got this recipe from an older lady at church. I changed some of the ingredients around, omitting the pinto beans and adding bacon, to come up with this salad. This tastes best if allowed to sit for an hour and allow the flavors to meld, but it can be enjoyed as soon as it’s completed.

Pineapple Casserole – I got this recipe from my husband’s great-great-aunt so it’s been in the family for a long time. This recipe is sweet enough to be used as a dessert, but, hey, we live in the South. It’s a side dish.  If you need a gluten-free version of this dish, omit the flour and substitute an equal amount of cornstarch. Then, add gluten-free Ritz style crackers to the top or omit the crackers altogether.
