We did not mean to adopt a dog. We had been passing by the animal shelter when Bryan suggested we stop and “look at the animals.” We walked down the aisle of dogs and saw a cute little terrier. “Aww…. This one is so cute!” I exclaimed, “Let’s get it!” We proceeded to the front, explained which dog we wanted and were told, “No. This dog was a stray. It has a one week hold on it because the owner is probably looking for it.” Meanwhile, my daughter had found a corgi-mix she wanted and gleefully showed it to us. “No,” Bryan said, “not that one. It looks like it would be yappy.” Shortly afterward we left the shelter with the Corgi mix, whom we christened Rio.
Rio came to us already trained; he could fetch (when he wanted too), beg, sit, and roll over. He had a calm, serene nature only disturbed by the doorbell and various dinging noises. These noises caused him to race around in circles and bark frantically; possibly for fear we were under attack by the evil doorbell forces. Realizing he was a herding breed, we decided he should be introduced to our small flock of sheep. This endeavor was not the success we hoped; instead of herding he lay down beside the lamb and snuggled. The other sheep took pride in either regally ignoring him or butting him across the field when he bothered them.
Rio’s favorite activity is walking through several of the nearby national parks, sniffing excitedly at trees and happily barking at other dogs when they walk by. Less exciting for him was our decision to foster dogs from the shelter. Deciding he was the big boss, he tries to lead them around the yard or forge a path for them on walks, even though all the dogs have been twice his size. He’s also became fiercely protective of my daughter, much to her chagrin. “Honestly,” she exclaims, “I’m supposed to feel protected by a dog that comes up to my ankle?”
Because Rio has an active lifestyle protecting us from doorbells, the scent of other dogs and protecting the sheep from the ravages of coyotes, he wants a soft place to rest his weary head for the night. He is excited (and doesn’t like to share!) his new Tall Tails bed, made with superior materials for long lasting comfort. I like it because it is machine washable and dryable, making it easy to keep clean and sanitary. Tall Tails also makes durable towels and blankets. I am a fan of their program to donate beds for military dogs, because every dog deserves a comfy bed at the end of a long day.
Doesn’t your hard working dog friend deserve a treat?

I have 2 dogs and 3 cats. I used to have another dog but we lost him due to cancer 4 months or so ago. I have one bichon frise and a lab retriever.
Artie is special because he is a former rescue dog that did not know any commands and was unfamiliar with living in a house. He loves to snuggle and go on adventures. Recently, he earned his Jr. Lure Coursing title. We are so proud of him and all he has accomplished.
My dog is special because he provides me with unconditional love!
Our Bella is special because she’s so incredibly sweet and playful!

YoYo my little Min – Pin is very special to me …. My Husband rescued him out of a ferret cage and gave him to me for christmas … YoYo was his last present to me before he passed away suddenly.
My cutie is actually my husband’ s ex-wife’s dog. She begged for a Yorkie then lost interest. When we got married she gave him to us. I cook for him and he’s my little buddy. Would live to win this for him! Thanks for the giveaway!
My pet is special because he’s an awesome cuddler.
My Dora is special as she came to us here in New England from Texas. She is a toy rat terrier who we love so much. She is my furry little baby. We have had her for 9 yrs now and she is spoiled rotten.
My big boy rascal is special because he can be such a pain in the butt and I just have to look at him and I melt. He drives me crazy and I wouldn’t have him any other way. Always love your pets.
My dog is such a momma’s girl.. In fact I have to do more blog posts on her. She deserves to be highlighted. This doggie bed looks so comfy… I bet she’d love it. and I’d love the extra room in my bed at night. ♥
Because I am basically housebound due to complications from Lupus and other conditions, she is my best friend and constant companion. She is the reason I get up every day and she makes me smile.
Our dog, a Brittany named Radely, is special because he wants nothing but to love us and be loved. He is almost a year old and is a bundle of energy and fun.

Aww Rio is such a cutie! He sure does deserve one of these awesome looking beds! That looks amazing!
Lol too funny, and adorable! You’re daughter is hilarious. Tell her “it’s not the size of the dog in the fight….” haha! I’m sure he’d do some serious ankle biting if someone tried to harm her!
Rio is adorable, and it’s so great that you adopted him. Dogs are the best and all deserve beds as comfy as the one you’re giving away!
So adorable and cute, the dog makes the sell of the item.

This dog bed would be perfect for my little poochie! She needs a new bed after she peed her old one.
What a sweet little pup! We didn’t’ mean to adopt our dog either. We were puppy sitting for the weekend; and ended up falling in love with our dog. His owner had rescued him from a shelter because he was going to be put to sleep; and he was just looking for a good home for him. So magic happened and we adopted our dog. It’s it so fun when something unexpected happens that really blesses your life?
Aw gosh your fur-baby is simply adorable great pictures and love the story behind it thanks for sharing

Aw, Rio is such a little sweetie pie! This reminds me that I need to get my dogs new beds, theirs are pretty worn out!
oh my goodness how cute is that doggy!
Awe… y’all sound just like us… we didn’t mean to adopt our baby, but we saw her outside a store as the shelter had a tent… an hour later we were home with our new baby. This is just awesome as we have been wanting to get her a new bed… thanks for sharing
This is such a cute little doggie! My little dog thinks he is a big boss too!
I love that you are fostering other dogs. One of my dogs wouldn’t have a problem, but my little girl dog likes to be the boss and would probably take issue.
So adorable! I have a little Min Pin who thinks he’s a big dog lol
This is a great story! I am a volunteer foster parent for the local humane society, so I am always so deeply touched and happy when people choose to adopt! So many animals are so great and need the love! <3
My hubby and are cat people, but your little dog Rio is quite adorable!
I am actually in the market for a new bed for one of my dogs. This looks like it would wash well. Off to check this out.
What a cutie pie!! That is awesome he was trained when you got him!! He sounds like a wonderful addition to the family!
What an adorable doggy! I think it’s awesome to adopt a pet from a shelter!
It is nice when you get pets that are fully trained, isn’t it? Our dog, Milo, was trained, too!
