5 Simple Tips to Freshen Up Your Home for Spring

It’s been a long, dreary winter and I am ready for spring.  Living in an area that rarely sees snowfall,  slogging through icy mush has been a shock to my senses.  I can’t wait for the cheery sound of chirping birds and the neighbors prepping their lawns for spring.  Until then I have five simple tricks to freshen up the inside of my home and help me pretend spring is in the air.  They’re affordable and won’t break the budget, meaning I can afford to freshen up without feeling guilty.

1.  Add fresh flowers, fruit or herbs to the table.
Nothing says spring more than the aroma of fresh flowers. They add a pop of color to any decor and bring the outdoors inside. If you don’t want the expense of fresh flowers, invest in a couple of herb plants. Many have a lovely aroma and as an added bonus, can be used in cooking.

2.  Reduce clutter.
One of the quickest ways to help any house feel fresh and clean is to reduce clutter.  During the winter clutter seems to pile into every corner of my house.  By getting rid of the accumulated things I don’t need, I can make my house airy while donating or selling the extra stuff. One’s man junk is another man’s treasure!

3. Lighten up.
Winter means heavy quilts, throws, blankets and more spread throughout the house.  Change the bed linens to lightweight fabrics in pastel colors. Put away the heavy throws and replace the decorative pillows with ones with a pop of color.

4.  Update Accessories.
Add a fun new spring scented soap in the bathroom or add a spring scented candle to a room.  Change the pictures in your rooms to ones in bright white frames. I always add a seashell wreath to the front door. I may not be able to have a beach getaway but I can pretend!

5.  Add a fun new piece to your decor.
Sometimes a fun new piece of furniture can add an entirely new look to a room.

What are some of your favorite tips to freshen up your home for spring?
