We have a new baby in the family. She’s cute, cuddly and so good! I want to spend all my time squeezing her. She also makes her mother extremely nervous. There are many panicky moments when I am asked, “Is she supposed to do that? Is this normal?” Usually the answer is, “Yes.” Over the years I’ve learned some parenting tips I wish I had known. They’ve worked with the new baby and I hope they work with you too!
5 Parenting Tips I Wish I Had Known
1. How To Make a DIY Baby Heating Pad for Upset Stomachs. This tip was shared by a nurse and helps to calm those cranky, fuss babies. You’ll need two wash clothes and a plastic zip topped sandwich bag. Hold one wash cloth under very warm water. Squeeze out the water and fold the washcloth. Place the wet washcloth in the plastic bag and seal. Wrap the second wash cloth around the plastic bag. Add a few drops of essential oil in a soothing scent, like lavender, if desired. Place the wrapped wash cloth on baby’s stomach.
2. Establish a Bedtime Routine. I found my children like routine and slept better if we planned the same activities nightly. We settled for a relaxing bath, reading a bedtime story and lullabies before bed. This routine still works on the baby!
3. Freeze Wash Clothes For Teething. It’s tough having a three month old who already has a tooth nub coming in. Regular teethers are too big for her mouth, but she wants to chew on things constantly. We solved this problem by wetting a wash cloth and placing it in the freezer for approximately 15 minutes. I usually wipe her gums with the wash cloth to provide a few minutes of relief.
4. Always, Always, Always Keep Extra Diapers in the Car. Trust me when I say no one will be happy if you find yourself out of diapers when you are out and about. Plus, as a bonus, if you ever run out of diapers at home, there will be a few in the car until you can go to the store.
5. Use Detergent For Sensitive Skin. Babies have more sensitive skin than adults, so it’s best to wash their clothing in a special detergent. all® free clear is the #1 detergent recommended by Dermatologists, Allergists, and Pediatricians for Sensitive Skin. We use this anyway because my daughter has eczema and all® free clear detergent was awarded the Seal of Acceptance by the National Eczema Association for having no dyes, perfumes, certain chemicals, and irritating residues. Because we have allergies, we trust all® free clear detergent to remove 99% of everyday and seasonal allergens, including cat and dog dander, dust mite matter, ragweed, grass, and tree pollen, and dust mite matter. all® free clear is not intended to treat or prevent allergies, but it can help with our laundry! Just remember, be sure to follow the directions on the package exactly! You can find all® free clear at Target.
