The men in my family are big burger fans. When I was researching restaurants to visit during our trip to New Orleans they happened to see a place called Ted’s Frostop. “Let’s go there,” they said, “They have burgers and fries.” When we arrived at Ted’s Frostop, located in the Garden District a couple of blocks behind Tulane University, my first impression was that we had stepped back into the 1950’s. My husband laughed at my fears and told me, “They have a sign saying they have been in business since 1926. The food must be good!”
I could tell the restaurant was a hit with the locals when I stepped inside. Tables of coeds from area colleges were mixed amongst families having dinner with their children or grandchildren. The friendly server greeted regulars by name and chatted with them, asking about their day. She was equally gracious with us, exploring food options and telling us her favorite choices. Finally our order was decided, the Double Lot-o-Burger with fries for the men and the Lot-O-Burger with fries for me. The food took a few minutes to prepare as it was made fresh, but when it arrived, piping hot at our table, all I could think of was “This is a Lot of Burger!” I hadn’t eaten since breakfast and I still barely made it through my burger. I had to give my fries to the rest of the family because I was too full to eat them!
We liked the food so much that on another night of the trip, when I asked where everyone wanted to eat, they replied, “Can we go back to Ted’s Frostop? I want another Lot-o-burger!” When we returned to Ted’s Frostop, it was like returning home. The same friendly staff was there and they greeted us like they had known us forever. “Hey, ya’ll! You are back! We are so glad to see you! You want the same thing you had last time or do you want to try something new?” This time I tried the Chili Cheese dog. It was served with homemade chili, topped with cheese, on the side. I could add as much or as little as I wanted.
My son told me, “If we lived here we would eat here all the time!” We all agreed we wished one was available in our area. We may have to take another trip to New Orleans just for the burgers! Don’t forget to try their special root beer, available in diet or regular. It’s thick, foamy and not too sweet, a definite must taste for a root beer fan.

this looks like somewhere my dad would love to eat out at
I grew up in New Orleans and I can tell you that Frost-top is wonderful. When I was a kid there was one with a giant neon root-beer mug on to on Saint Charles Avenue. I don’t know if it’s there anymore.
Ooh, now that is a HUGE burger… my husband would love that!
That burger and fries looks pretty good right now. I have a great little burger stand near my house that I just LOVE.
You know I need to have a burger now! It looks so good. Is it bad that I start planning vacation trips around food locations…

The burger looks great! I love finding burger treasures! We have a couple really good burger places here too.
It is always good to find where the locals like to eat. This places sounds like one that might get overlooked but that you definitely want to discover if you like burgers (we do too)!
I don’t eat too much red meat but my hubby does! He loves burgers. He would love more burger places in our area. We don’t have one of these here.
My first impression when I saw the photo was…”That looks like a fun place to eat. I wish I had one near me.
This is my kind of burger! It is loaded with a lot of good stuff. If I am ever down that way, I will head over here!

Seriously that was a good looking burger, and crinkle cut fries are my fave. We live in the middle of nowhere, trust me when I say I appreciate a restaurant w/a tasty menu. 🙂
Glad you found a place everyone likes.
If you’re going to indulge in a burger, this certainly looks like the place to do it! Love the outside pic. Looks like it has a fun environment.
My mouth is watering right now! That burger looks SO good!
I wish there were a Ted’s here, that looks delish! I am such a burger fan. It was a joke on the last trip I went on that I ordered a burger for every meal. LOL!!
These burgers look so yummy. I’m a big hamburger fan and I love eating at old fashioned burger joints.
Oh wow its hard to find good old fashioned burger places with good service. If we ever travel that way I will make it a point to stop with the family.
Ohh how nice does that look – love that it comes in ‘newspaper’ as well takes me right back 🙂 X
Oh man you make it sound good, and top it off with some diet root beer? LOVE IT! I wish I had spotted it when I was there. 🙂
That looks so darn good! Especially those fries. I love the crinkle cut fries. 🙂
We still make our own burgers though there are times we go outside and eat some. Yours look mighty good!
Oh man, You are making me hungry and wanting to be bad!
You know something is good when you go back for seconds. That burger looks really good in the pic. I like restaurants that serve those homemade look burgers. They’re more delicious than the ones you get at fast food joints. Might be someplace I want to eat at if I ever go to New Orleans.
looks like a really FUN Place to go eat. i wish we had it near us in ct!
My Hubs is a HUGE burger fan and gets really upset when we go out and he gets a crummy burger. You know a place is good when you go back again!!

Yum! Your burgers look delish. I haven’t been to NOLO, but it’s on my list. My husband Mike and I love burgers so I can add Ted’s Frostop to my “must eat there” list . Thanks!
