How to Make Easy Thanksgiving Turkey Cookies

I’m all about serving cute and festive treats during the holidays. Unfortunately. the time commitment for festive treats is not always there.  My cooking secret?  I’m not above using shortcuts to create treats that look like I fussed. “Being good enough” is my motto.  This easy Thanksgiving turkey cookies recipe comes together quickly using prepared frosting and refrigerated sugar cookie dough. Best of all, the kids can help!

Easy Thanksgiving Turkey Cookies Recipe

What you need:

Refrigerated cookie dough, your choice of flavor (I like sugar), flour, a can of vanilla frosting, candy corn and black gel frosting. You can use Nerds to make the eyes or just add more black gel frosting.

How to Make The Cookies:

Step 1; Mix the cookie dough and flour until blended. This is important! If you don’t the dough will not be thick enough.
Step 2: Roll out dough. Use a circle cookie cutter to cut shapes from the dough. Place on cookie sheet and bake until done (about 8 minutes). Allow cookies to cool.

Spread 3: Spread vanilla frosting onto each cookie, covering almost all of the cookie.

Step 4: Place candy corn around the top of the cookie for feathers. Add one candy corn to center of cookie for nose.

Step 5: Add two nerd candies (or use black decorating gel) to make eyes above the candy corn.

Step 6: Draw “legs” onto the bottom of cookie with the decorator gel.
1 package of refrigerated sugar cookie dough
1 cup self rising flour
1 can prepared vanilla frosting
Holiday Candy Corn Mix
Black Gel Frosting
1 small package of grape nerds (I used the a package from our Halloween candy stash)
In a large bowl, mix together the cookie dough and the flour until well blended. Place the cookie dough on a large piece of waxed paper. The cookie dough needs to be rolled out into one half inch thickness. Tip:  If you don’t have a rolling pin, just use a round glass that has been sprayed with cooking spray. Once the dough has been rolled to the correct thickness, use the mouth of the glass or a round cookie cutter to cut the dough into circles.
I had enough to make sixteen medium sized cookies with my package of dough. Bake the cookies on 350 degrees for eight to ten minutes or until lightly browned. IMPORTANT: Let them cool completely before icing.
Add the icing to a pastry bag and pipe frosting onto the cookies in straight lines. Tip:  If you don’t have a pastry bag, just pick up a package of frosting tips at Walmart for a couple of dollars, cut the corner out of a freezer bag, stick the tip into the corner and fill the bag with frosting. Once the frosting has been piped into place, add Holiday Candy Corn around the edges to make feathers. Add two nerds for eyes. I used the broken tips of Candy Corn I found in the bottom of the bag as beaks for the turkeys. Finally, use the gel to make “feet” near the bottom of the turkeys.
