Saving money can be hard. Sometimes the hardest part is knowing how to start the savings. If you want to start saving money, but you’re afraid it will be complicated, here are some tips anyone can use. These four easy ways to save money are simple, painless tips. Because I am all for painless ways to save! Want to know my simple “secrets?”
4 Easy Ways to Save Money
1. Start a Change Jar.
We keep a large mason jar in our home. Whenever anyone has spare coins, we drop them into the jar. I also put any change I find on the floor or in the washing machine directly in our change jar. The kids have been warned in advance. We don’t always add change daily. Sometimes it’s only once or twice a week. Even if we save one dollar a week, we’ll have $52 dollars more than we had at the beginning of the year.
2. Try to use at least one coupon a week.
I don’t do extreme couponing. The things I need might not be on sale. Sometimes the coupons might be for something I can not or will not use. Instead, I try to use at least one coupon a week for something I really need or want. It doesn’t even have to be a grocery coupon. It could be a coupon for a favorite treat at a restaurant or a coupon at the local craft store. I’m trying for a goal of five coupons a week. I’ve been pleased to find savings from $1 to $10 a week using only one coupon.
3. Shop Online.
By shopping online I can compare prices, save money on gas and make sure an item is in stock without leaving home. I can do it all anytime of day without changing out of my pajamas. One of my favorite places to shop online is Groupon Coupons. We use their deals on everything from finding attractions in cities we visit to finding great vacation deals. I can even use Groupon Coupons to save money on tax preparation.
4. Delay Instant Gratification.
Unfortunately, I have expensive tastes. When we had to replace our car recently, my husband asked me to point out cars I would like to have. He didn’t expect me to pick out luxury models and sports cars. (Although in the end, I went with a more practical car.)
This strategy of delaying instant gratification has paid off. I no longer “settle” for cheaper items of what I want so I can buy it right away. Usually, I would bring the cheaper item home, then decide it wasn’t what I wanted. Now, when shop ping for big ticket items, I find the item I want, save money and purchase it. It takes longer to get the item, but I’m happy to have what I really wanted.
