When fall arrives in Georgia this can mean several things; cooler weather, football season and apple picking time! We live near an area known for its apples. People flock from miles away to enjoy the apple festivals and sample delicious apple recipes. I am an eager participant in these events, but I’m also a fan of short cuts. If I can make my fall recipes a little easier by using purchased apple sauce or apple juice, I am all for it!
I was shopping at Walmart recently, and needing some inspiration for fall and Halloween ideas, walked down their Halloween candy aisle. I stopped short when I saw the new versions of M&Ms. They have two new flavors available for fall; candy corn and candy apple. Naturally, I snatched up a bag of each and brought them home. Will they make it until Halloween to become parts of treats and decor? I doubt it! Because my kids have been awaiting the start of fall, along with cooler temperatures, which I think is strange, I decided to pacify them by making an Apple Cheesecake. Since I have a Celiac daughter, to make this dessert for her I leave off the graham cracker crust or use gluten free graham crackers to make the crust. To give it extra flavor, I added apple flavored whipped cream to the top and garnished it with Candy Apple M&Ms.
Here’s what you need to make it:
Mix the cream cheese, applesauce, eggs, sugar and vanilla together. Pour into the graham cracker pie crust (or use a pie pan lined with waxed paper or foil, if not using a crust.) Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes or until the center is set.
Allow the pie to cool completely. Make the whipped cream topping by mixing the heavy whipping cream, apple sauce and sugar together until stiff peaks form.
Spread apple pie filling over the top of the pie and sprinkle on chopped pecans or walnuts. Add whipped cream to top of pie. Garnish with the candy apple M&Ms. Caramel ice cream topping can also be drizzled onto each slice of pie, if desired.
- 1 (21-ounce) can apple pie filling
- 1 (9-inch) graham cracker crust (Omit if making a gluten free pie or use Gluten Free Graham Crackers to make the crust)
- 1/4 cup ( 2 ounces) caramel topping (optional)
- 2 (8-ounce each) packages cream cheese, at room temperature
- 1/2 (4 ounces) cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 (4 ounces) cup chopped pecans OR walnuts
- 1/2 cup (4 ounces) apple sauce
- Optional: add 1/2 cup (4 ounces) chopped Candy Apple M&Ms to pie filling
- For Topping:
- 1 cup (8 ounces) Heavy whipping cream
- 2 Tablespoons apple juice
- 1/4 cup (2 ounces) sugar
- Mix together cream cheese, sugar, vanilla, eggs and apple sauce. Add M&Ms if desired. Pour into prepared graham cracker pie crust. (TO MAKE GLUTEN FREE: do not use pie crust. Pour mixture into a foil or wax paper lined cake pan.) Bake at 350 degrees 40 minutes or until center is set. Allow to cool.
- Top with apple pie filling, nuts and flavored whipped cream. Garnish with M&Ms and drizzle caramel over the pie, if desired.
- Make flavored whipped cream by mixing the cream, apple juice and sugar together. Beat until stiff peaks form

I haven’t seen these M & Ms yet, but they sound yummy. I’ve never baked a cheesecake without crust, but I’m excited to try. My husband is allergic to so much, but that’s a great option for him.
This looks delicious and pretty easy, too. Thanks for the great recipe!

That looks amazing! I love how you added M&Ms – my kids will try anything that has whipped cream AND M&Ms on it!
Oh this looks delicious! I love the whipped cream and M&Ms on top. Yum!
I always love it when you post a recipe, Pam. I’m from Alabama originally, and for me, southern recipes are still the best recipes. I don’t know if it’s something in the air or the water, but any recipe – no matter where it’s from – is always better when cooked south of the Mason/Dixon.
Ohhh…apple cheesecake. Adding it to my list of things to try making this fall.
I love cheese cake and my husband loves apple pie with caramel. I need to try out this recipe.
That sounds delicious, especially with the caramel. I’m sure the M&M’s give a nice added texture besides adding an extra layer of fun.
This looks so good. I can’t wait to make it for our upcoming game night. Thanks for sharing.
This sounds amazing! I need to find those m&m’s, too!
Oh my! This sounds amazing. I am going to have to look for those M&Ms in the store too. Yum!
Okay, this sounds amazing! Such a fun spin on cheesecake.
I really have to learn to make cheesecake at home. I know it isn’t hard, but I always forget to pick up all the ingredients!
I think I just died. Caramel, warm apple and cheesecake??? Yes, please.
These look delicious! I love applesauce. It’s the only fruit I never grow tired of. And candy apple M&M’s? How have I not seen these?
How creative! Who’d have thought. I love caramel apple flavor, so having it without the messy caramel is even better!
Um yummmmmy! Never thought of using apple juice in such a dessert!
Oh this looks yum-my. We love the Mott’s toddler apple juice (a little less sugar.) My son survives on applesauce, I believe.
We go through a TON of Mott’s applesauce here in our house, too!
Oh boy, I am drooling over here. That sounds divine!
