There’s nothing like a family movie night, cuddled up with the kids, watching a Disney movie. Disney’s Planes: Fire and Rescue was recently released and it was time to sit down, take a break, and catch up on the adventures of Dusty. In this sequel Dusty finds himself unable to race again because of a damaged engine. He joins a crew of elite aircraft fire fighters working to protect historic Piston Peak National Park from raging wildfires. When they work together to put out a devastating fire, Dusty learns the true meaning of being a hero. While watching the movie, I served this cute Planes snack idea I found on sprout.com.
It is super simple to make and takes only four ingredients; bananas, strawberries, raisins and something to make the clouds. You can use cottage cheese, whipped cream, sour cream, yogurt or whatever your child likes. I was out of raisins so I substituted what I had on hand; chocolate chips.
Begin by cutting a banana in half lengthwise. Turn one banana half sideways on the plate.
Cut the second banana slice in half. Place one half around the middle of the sideways banana. Add the other half on the opposite side. Cut a one inch piece from the end of another banana. Place it on the right side of the banana.
Add several raisins down the middle of the banana. Place a strawberry half on the bottom of the plane and two halves beside the wings. Surround with a whipped cream cloud. How much fun is this? The kids will be so enthralled with your plane making skills they won’t realize they are having a healthy snack. I’m always looking for recipes like this that are easy to make, but impress the kids.
When you are finished watching the movie, you can extend the learning ideas by making paper airplanes and having a flying contest. Experiment with different ends on the paper airplanes to see which ones are the best fliers.
