In January my vacuum cleaner konked out. I was annoyed. Having kids and pets, I could easily vacuum several times a day to remove all the fur and dirt tracked into the house. “I’m going vacuum cleaner shopping,” I announced to Bryan. Standing in the store, surrounded by options, I declared I would pay more for a vacuum cleaner that would last for years. I tested different brands and finally decided on a Shark. It was midpriced (a little over $200) and had the features I wanted in a vacuum. Since then, I have used this vacuum almost daily–and sometimes twice a day if we have company coming over–with no problems. It picks up fur, works on hardwood and my area rugs, and does a great job. When I was offered a chance to review the new Shark Powered Lift Away, I jumped at the chance.
What’s different about this vacuum?
- It reaches the tightest spaces in my home. Thanks to the lift away design, this vacuum reaches under furniture, meaning I don’t have to spend time pushing the furniture out of the way or getting the broom and sweeping under furniture. It’s a much better option since, truthfully, I don’t have a lot of time to push furniture around or sweep under the furniture and it gets ignored more often than I would like.
- It has anti-allergen complete seal technology. This vacuum captures and traps 99.9% of allergens in the air. I didn’t realize ordinary HEPA filter systems can’t do this. They can realize the dirt and allergens back into the air. The sealed technology holds them inside the vacuum, meaning I can literally breath easier.
- It includes a True Pet Mini Motorized Brush. Do you know how much fur three long haired cats can shed? Even if it doesn’t look like they are shedding a lot, I ‘ve learned from going over my furniture several times a week with a lint roller there’s fur you can’t see. I have friends who are allergic to cats so even thought I put the cats in time out during their visits, pet hair on the carpet or on the couch could still irritate them.
- It has a Hard Floor Genie. We had to rip up our carpet several years ago at the insistence of the kids’ doctor. He explained with their asthma the carpet was trapping a lot of allergens. We now have hard wood with large area rugs. I never realized how much dirt was tracked into the house until we got hardwood! It’s worse depending on the weather. The Hard Floor Genie picks up large debris and fine dust in one step. Sweeping several times a day and missing dirt or one quick vacuum? I’ll take the quick vacuuming any day!
- It has a seven year warranty. This is my absolute favorite. Once I get an appliance I expect it to last. If not, I want it to be replaced. With the seven year warranty, I’m covered.
What are the features you look for in a vacuum?
I really think the best one was the Shark vacuum. price $ 200, it’s really durable. I am very disappointed to have only used 2 months, my old vacuum corruption are damaged.

I love how it’s a completely sealed system. My son and I are both asthmatics and unfortunately the place we stay in has carpet upstairs in the bedrooms. We are constantly dusting and vacuuming!
This vacuum sounds impressive! I love Shark products, so I definitely think this would be a versatile product to have!

I have two long hair cats. This would be a great vacuum for me. I am looking for a replacement vacuum. I will have to go look at this one.
I am a huge fan of Shark. We have all wood flooring except the kitchen which is ceramic. I love the Shark steam clean products. We had one for the floors and it was so amazing. No chemicals needed. And my kitchen floors are white!
This makes quick clean-ups a heck of a lot easier! It sounds like a super vacuum replacement for the one that broke at your place.

I definitely love a vacuum that is smaller and lighter. It can get hard on the old back.
I look for a vacuum that can handle pets. That is a huge need for us.
I like one that’s easily portable. Of course how well it cleans is a huge factor.
Shark makes great vacuums and I have the Rocket and just absolutely love it!

I look for a vacuum that is light and easy to put away but at the same time has strong pick up ability. I like vacuums that don’t need bags.
I love the hard floor cleaning feature. I have mostly hardwood and HATE using a regular broom to clean it. This would be much quicker!

In a vacuum I look for lightweight, in addition to being able to squeeze under small pieces of furniture. I also look for bagless and less gadgets.
Now that looks like a good one. Very handy.

Looks like a GREAT vacuum! Personally, I need a vacuum that has a great filter. I’m allergic to dust and dog dander. This comes from a woman who has two toy Australian shepherds AND lives in midtown Manhattan, where construction is always going on. I currently have FOUR room filters running. I’m pretty sure I also have to update my vacuum. I swear I saw dust follow me when I placed it in the closet 😉

I like the mini motorized brush for pet fur. Two deserted long-hair cats adopted us and since it is cold outside, they are spending a lot of time indoors visiting. I can do some major cleaning much easier with the shark.
We have an old school hand held shark and I love it!

That pet brush is so needed in our house, thanks to a shedding golden retriever! I love vacuums that are lightweight, have lots of attachments for cleaning more than just floors, and are bagless!
