Strawberry Lemonade Smoothie Recipe

What screams summer more than fresh, sweet, juicy strawberries and a glass of ice-cold lemonade? We planted a few strawberry vines but so far our crop has yielded 5 berries. I’ve resorted to purchasing strawberries at the store and the local farmer’s market. I have so many strawberry recipes I enjoy preparing, like my strawberry freezer jam, my strawberry cream pie, and my strawberry cream cheese and strawberry butter. Even with all my strawberry recipes, one of my favorite ways to serve them is in this Strawberry Lemonade Smoothie recipe.

This post has been rewritten with new tips and a printable recipe.

Strawberry Lemonade Smoothie Recipe

This recipe is easy to prepare, but fancy enough to serve to guests. Add a slice of fresh strawberry to the rim of the glass and top the smoothie with fresh mint to create a party-worthy beverage.

Ingredients You Need:

  • fresh strawberries
  • lemon yogurt
  • undrained crushed pineapple
  • frozen pink lemonade concentrate
  • crushed ice- This ingredient can be left out if you prefer a thicker smoothie. The ice adds a slushie texture to the drink.
  • Optional: fresh mint sprigs and strawberry slices for garnish
Full-fat yogurt works best in this recipe.

How to Make The Smoothie:

  • Wash the strawberries. Remove any stems or leaves.
  • Add the strawberries, yogurt, and pineapple to the blender. Process the ingredients on smoothie mode for 5 to 10 seconds.
  • Add the frozen lemonade concentrate and ice. Process the ingredients in smoothie mode until slushie, approximately 15 to 30 seconds. Serve immediately.

How to Choose The Most Flavorful Strawberries:

Ripe strawberries make any recipe better. Here’s how to choose strawberries at their peak freshness.

  • Purchase Strawberries in season. In the US, that usually means the end of April until August.
  • Purchase strawberries from local growers if possible. Strawberries in the grocery store must be picked before they are ripe for shipping purposes.
  • Choose clean, dry berries.
  • Choose berries with bright green caps.
  • Choose strawberries that have a strong “strawberry smell.”
  • Look for a berry that is red all over, plump, and firm.

What to Avoid when Choosing Strawberries:

  • Avoid strawberries with white parts near the bottom or stem. That’s a sign they were picked before they were fully ripe. Strawberries are one fruit which will not ripen after they are picked, so this strawberry will not be as sweet as a strawberry that is red all over.
  • Avoid mushy, bruised, or wrinkled strawberries.
  • Avoid discolored strawberries.

Can I Substitute Other Fruits for Strawberries?

Sure! Good substitutes are blueberries and raspberries. You can also replace the lemon yogurt with strawberry yogurt.

This can be made as a cocktail.

Can This Be Made into An Adult Beverage?

Yes! This can be used to make a delicious Strawberry Vodka Drink. Prepare the drink as directed, except omit the lemon yogurt. After blending the mixture, stir in 1/3 to 1/2 cup of vodka. Serve immediately.

You can also make Spiked Strawberry Lemonade Smoothies. Prepare the drink as directed, but leave out the lemon yogurt. After blending the smoothie, stir in 1/2 to 3/4 cup rum.

This is a fun drink to prepare with the kids as a “beginning cooking lesson.” Just don’t step outside when they preparing it! I did this once as the kids were getting ready to blend the drink. They forgot to add the lid to the blender before turning it on smoothie mode. Let’s just say my cabinets and counter enjoyed the smoothie more than I did.
