DIY Lavender & Mint Hand Sanitizer Spray

Everyone has to have a hobby. Mine is herb gardening. I got into this by accident when I “found” some herbs in my in-law’s garden and took some cuttings. Since then, I’ve been hooked. My garden has expanded each year. I’m always on the hunt for new ways to use herbs and essential oils. On a recent trip to Kentucky, we stopped at the Shaker Village, Pleasant Hill where I stumbled upon a demonstration of uses the Shakers had for herbs. I sampled their Lavender and Mint Hand Sanitizer Recipe (which they called antiseptic spritzer) and the recipe. Naturally, I had to rush home to make this. It smells so good and is so easy to make! With only four ingredients, you’ll want to keep a bottle of this on hand at all times.

How To Make Lavender Mint Hand Sanitizer Spray

For this recipe, you’ll need both lavender and mint essential oil, water, and witch hazel. You’ll also need a small spritzer bottle.

Pour the water and witch hazel into the spritzer bottle. Add the lavender and mint essential oils, a few drops at a time until your desired scent is reached. Since the recipe calls for 5 drops of each, you can add more for a stronger scent or less if you prefer lightly scented products.

Note: If you don’t have witch hazel, but you do have vodka, you can substitute an equal amount of vodka for the witch hazel. Don’t have either? Substitute 4 ounces of regular rubbing alcohol.

  13. Witch Hazel or Vodka? I would’ve never guessed that substitution but I’m here for it. Vodka isn’t odorless per se but it has a minimal scent so i can see it mixed with water and essential oil.

  14. I love essential oils so much! I don’t use the ones I have nearly enough. Is the plastic bottle ok to use? I’ve made household cleaners using my essential oils, but I was advised to use glass bottles.
