Entertaining is so much easier in the summer. I have spent several years creating a large patio garden and entertaining area. (It’s my hobby so I am always changing something.) The spot is perfect for cookouts, birthday parties, impromptu evenings with friends and family, or holiday gatherings. I do a yearly spring cleaning indoors, but after looking around my patio and garden area, I discovered I needed to tackle the outdoors too. These Outdoor Spring Cleaning Tips will help you be ready for any family fun you want to enjoy.

5 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Tips:
1. Clean The Patio Furniture and Accessories. Summers are hot and humid in Georgia. The pollen count is high and items become covered with a layer of dirt and pollen. I begin by scrubbing all my furniture and accessories. Once they are dry I check for rust spots and repaint anything that is faded or rusted. Tip: Keep a supply of Mr. Clean Erasers on hand. They are great for scrubbing grime and removing any dried paint that gets on the wrong things by accident.
2. Wash all rugs, cushions, and table coverings. I store my rugs, cushions and table coverings in our shed during the winter. A good wash is the easiest way I’ve found to perk up tired fabrics and remove any dirt or allergens they’ve picked up. I keep a supply of Tide Pods and Tide Liquid for my multiple loads of washing. (And if you have a lot of furniture like me, there will be loads and loads of laundry!)
3. Clean Glassware. Scrub those table tops, lanterns, glass picture frames wit glass cleaner and Bounty Paper Towels to remove any grime or dirt that has accumulated over the winter. I also keep an ice scraper nearby for any stubborn stains I need to tackle.
4. Remove any weeds. I’m always surprised by the amount of weeds and plants that can grow in the minuscule cracks on my patio! Remove the weeds and plants while they are still small. It’s easier to get rid of the roots of the weed this way and the plants can be transplanted into the garden.
5. Sweep and Clean the Patio Flooring. I save this chore for last because I prefer to work my way from top to bottom. This allows all the dirt to drift to the floor and I am not forced to redo something I’ve already cleaned. After I sweep the patio, I spend time mopping to make sure all the dirt is out of corners and crevices. It’s a good way to make sure no weeds grow out of the cracks too!
These are simple tips but include often overlooked details. Because details matter when it comes to cleaning, I purchased all my P& G products at Costco. It’s funny that I read your post today because when I woke up this morning, I was already thinking about tackling the front steps patio flooring we have for the weekend. It’s a sign! 🙂 These are great tips, by the way.
These are all very good tips. It’s important to have all the right cleaning products. I try as much as I can to clean every area in the house including the outdoors.
We do have a large table and about 8 chairs. But we don’t keep any cloth fabrics out there to wash. our chairs do need a good cleaning however.
Thank you for the checklist. I’m printing it out now and ticking some of them off. We are almost done with spring cleaning. We just have the yard, the patio and the garage to tackle.

I’m currently on the weed part. I definitely needed a recommendation for what to use.
My husband was just helping his dad last weekend clean up his garage.
They put some fresh top soil here and there, including any low areas in the yard and planted grass.

These are such great tips! I love that you gave tips for cleaning things on the outside. That is not seen very often, as spring cleaning usually refers to the inside.

Magic Erasers are my best friend and its amazing just how many messes they can erase. I’ve used them for everything!

Whenever I try to do some landscaping or gardening the project always seems to just start looking messy after awhile. I’m going to keep these tips in mind next time I want to spruce up the yard.
Magic Erasers are the best! When I first saw them on television a couple of years ago, I was sure they wouldn’t work. I was SO WRONG. I love them.
These are great tips. A lot of people forget to give the exterior as good of a clean as they do the inside of their homes.
I am slowly working on all of these things. The rains have slowed me down but everything will get cleaned and weeded.
Our deck needs a good power washing and there are a few nails that need to be replaced. I should get on that so we can start entertaining out there this spring.
I always have Mr. Clean Magic Erasers on hand when I’m spring cleaning or need to deep clean. These are all great tips and Tide is the only laundry detergent I use.
