Family traditions are the hallmark of the holiday season at our house. We have so many and the kids balk if we don’t do them. From the day after Thanksgiving when we take a trip to the local Christmas Tree Farm and chop down a tree, each day brings something new. We bake cookies, make candy for our friends and family, prepare Reindeer Food for Rudolph and his friends, and the list goes on. One tradition we began when my parents were alive was a special Christmas Eve celebration. We would open presents, have a special meal, listen to Christmas Carols, and prepare for Santa. This year we’re inviting friends over who have no family to celebrate with, so I thought we would create a new tradition; a Family Christmas Eve Box.
How To Make A Family Christmas Eve Box
What’s a Family Christmas Eve Box, you ask? It’s a box filled with small goodies the entire family can enjoy. I wanted to ensure we had a relaxing evening, but the kids’ still had the fun of opening one gift. The Christmas Eve Box gives us the best of both worlds. The box doesn’t have to be elaborate. I made our box by wrapping a shoebox in gift wrap. Next, comes the fun part, deciding what to include in our box. I decided I wanted a family night theme so I went with ideas for a family movie night and a family game night. The possibilities are endless.
What to Include In Your Christmas Eve Box
*A Christmas Movie of Your Choice (and if you don’t want to watch a Christmas movie, include one you’ve been dying to see. It’s the perfect excuse to watch it.)
*A Game
*Cocoa, Marshmallows (bonus points for the fancy gourmet ones!), and mugs
*Snacks (any kind of movie snacks; microwave popcorn is always good) or special Christmas candy treats
You can leave the goodies unwrapped or gift wrap them. And if you have some of these items at home already, just add them to the box. The kids will still have a good time opening the box and discovering the surprises.
If you prefer to go a different route and make a box for the kids only, why not make a bedtime Christmas Eve box? Include pajamas, a Christmas story, a stuffed animal, and a CD of Children’s Christmas Carols. You can also add small snacks and treats if you like. I’m thinking about doing this for the toddlers. After all, I want them to wind down and go to sleep! I can’t wait to see the kids’ faces as they open our box and we start a new tradition.
As for our Christmas Eve meal, we always try to prepare a special menu. After all, food brings people together. This year we are planning our meal around goodies from the Kansas City Steak Company. In business since 1932, they provide quality gourmet steaks, top-of-the-line beef cuts, and more. We received the Gift Boxed Kansas City Signature Steak Combo, which included 4 (12 ounces each) Kansas City Strip Steaks, 4 (8 ounces each) Filet Mignon, 4 (10 ounces each) boneless ribeyes, and 3 packages of Kansas City Steak Seasoning. All of the steaks were vacuum wrapped and delivered overnight to our door. Needless to say, we had to sample these before Christmas Eve so we broke out the grill. They were delicious! If you are looking for a gift for friends or family, you can’t go wrong with Kansas City Steaks. Not only do they have quality steaks, they have a line of gourmet sides and desserts. Use the Coupon Code SIMPLYFL17 to receive 15% off of your order. Note: Orders must be placed by 12 PM CST on Wednesday, December 20th to be received in time for Christmas.
