Planning a Halloween Bash

“Have you seen the latest Spider-Man stuff?” That’s a question I hear anytime I visit Walmart with the nine year old. He comes by it honestly. Growing up my husband had a cat named Spider-Man, who, sadly, did not live up to his namesake. And when the Spider-Man comic strip was cancelled in our daily newspaper, forget it! I’ve heard complaints for ten years. “I still can’t believe they cancelled that strip,” he pouts.

Naturally my Spidey senses were tingling when I heard I could pre-order The Amazing Spider- Man on DVD or Blu-ray. I honestly don’t know how we missed seeing this in theaters, but the November 9th release date has been highly anticipated by the men in our family. What I didn’t know was when I bought the pre-purchase box of The Amazing Spider-Man at Walmart, I would receive a free digital streaming copy through Vudu.com on October 30th. Yep, that’s ten days before the official release. I’ll be receiving my hard copy of the Blu-Ray/DVD/ Ultra Violet Combo Pack a couple of days early too. Won’t that make some Spider-Man fans in our household happy?

I found the The Amazing Spider-Man DVD+UltraViolet pre-purchase box in the Movie Department and snatched up a copy. I rushed home to sign up for our Vudu account. I had never heard of Vudu but it’s my new favorite store. I can stream new movie releases to my TV the same day they come out on video. My husband was skeptical. “How much does it cost?” he asked. When he found out there was no monthly subscription fees, we only paid for the movies we watch, and each new release is $2 for 2 nights, he was sold.

No more running out in the cold to find a box, only to discover the movie we wanted to watch is already gone for the evening. Family nights have been made easier and more fun for me. I can sit at home in my pajamas and see new releases. What’s not to like about that? I registered for an account, which took about five minutes, and added my pre-order information.

The kids and I were able to watch deleted scenes and stunt rehearsals immediately. We crowded around the computer to check it out before I remembered I could stream this to the TV.

To celebrate the release of The Amazing Spider-Man we’ll be hosting a Halloween Party later this month complete with Spider-Man themed food and ideas. I’m thinking about purchasing this Spider-Man pinata. My only worry is that people will accidentally hit each other with the pinata stick.
