Our tale begins when the Princess was a young child. She had a style of her own and asked to be able to redo her bedroom. The confused mom had furnished the room with an antique bed, light fixture and matching furniture. After finding water marks on the dresser and an unfortunate accident where one of the neighbor children broke the light fixture, the confused mom relented.
The Princess immediately asked to repaint the room to a sky blue scene with murals on the whale she drew, depicting scenes from Where The Wild Things Are. The full sized bed disappeared, replaced with a twin sized bed. Over the years the room changed and adapted, turning into a typical teen princess’s room, with clothes scattered on the floor and makeup stains mingling with the water stains on the dresser the confused mom had left in the room.
The Princess often complained after her mattress. “It’s lumpy! It’s uncomfortable!” Considering how much time the princess spent languishing in bed, the confused mom ignored the complaints. One day, near the time the Princess left to attend college, the confused mom happened to lie down on the bed. “Ouch!” she complained, “The springs are poking me!” Upon investigation she discovered one spring poking through the mattress, while others formed strange lumps in her spine. “That’s it!” the confused mom cried, “We will buy you a new mattress!”
Searching online, she researched mattresses and found 1907 Beds, “the ultimate connoisseurs of luxury mattresses.” “How about a memory foam mattress?” the confused mom suggested to the Princess. “You can have a perfect night’s sleep every night! Or perhaps a natural filled mattress with free wool for long winter’s nights?” The Princess’s reaction was priceless. Her face crumpled. “You want to get rid of my mattress?”
“But you said you wanted a new one….” said the confused mom. “You want to get rid of my mattress?” the Princess cried, “But it’s my mattress!” So, the old mattress remained while the confused mom dreamed of a day the old mattress will be replaced with a luxury mattress.
The moral of the story? Do not tell the Princess in advance, take decisive action instead.
LOL – it’s amazing what the princes and princesses come up with!
LOL what a creative story. I loved it and your right never give them a choice just do it.
I love that bed! I’ll have to convince the husband I’m a princess 🙂 Shouldn’t be too difficult! Love the Wild Things drawing!
Love it!! I have a princess just like that in my house!
lol, love your story. Hoping you get your luxury mattress!
We can never tell our kids anything in advance either. They do much better when they are surprised. Hopefully you’ll get that luxury mattress one day.
I love your story…I feel the same way about the boys bedroom decor which is olive kids dinosaurs but now since he is 12 and the other 9 I want to change it up and the older one is like, but…”I like the dinosaurs”
That’s kinda how I feel about my pillows! Too funny!
If you don’t want to get her or Beeb one… I’ll take it!! lol
Oh that is an awesome post! I will take the new mattress happily!!
Ha! You can buy me a new mattress instead, I wouldn’t complain. 😉
That is SO funny! OR….you could just be grateful you didn’t spend hundreds of dollars on a new, fancy mattress to hear her say she didn’t want it. 🙂 I guess we all come to love what we know. Sometimes new is scary.
Hahaha!! Story of my life!! Never tell a child you will replace something… they typically won’t even notice that it is gone!
