Easy Acorn Doughnuts Recipe

Can you believe fall is here and there are only a few weeks left until Halloween? While I’m not a fan of cooler weather, I am totally a fan of cute fall treats.  Usually, I’m all about cooking and baking unless it’s for young kids. I have discovered that when you’re making treats for them, they don’t care about fancy snacks.  And, worse, they usually tell you they need a snack for the entire classroom at 10 PM the night before they’re due.  That’s why I have a repertoire of simple snacks I can make in a moments notice, like this easy acorn doughnuts recipe.

Easy Acorn Doughnuts Recipe

One of the things I like about this recipe is that it only has four ingredients. I can keep three of them on hand in my pantry, or in the case of the toffee bars, in the freezer. They’re all common ingredients that most kids like so there’s no worries about complaints. Best of all, I can put together a couple of dozen of them in less than 30 minutes.

Here’s what you need to make them:
24 plain or glazed doughnut holes
1 (16 ounces) container of chocolate or peanut butter frosting
12 thin Pretzel sticks
2 toffee bars

Here’s how to make them:
1. Place the chocolate frosting in the microwave for 15 to 20 seconds. Pour into a small bowl.
2. Crush the toffee bars and place them in a small bowl.
3. Dip 1/3 of the doughnut hole in the chocolate frosting, then immediately dip it into the toffee chips.
4. Shake off any excess and place the doughnut hole on a baking sheet until the frosting is dry.
5. When the frosting is dry, add 1/2 of a thin pretzel stick to the top of the doughnut hole for a stem.
6. Serve the doughnut holes on a pretty fall tray and surround by fake leaves for ambiance.

Cooking Tips

*You don’t have to melt the icing if you don’t want too. Just frost the doughnuts instead.
*This is a fun recipe to let the kids help prepare.
