“Thank you,” I gushed to the mom who had just given me a gift certificate for Christmas, “I’m going to buy pencils, paper and crayons for my classroom.” Her laughter was followed by, “Oh wait! You’re serious, aren’t you?” I cannot begin to tell you how much of my paycheck went to making sure my classroom had basic supplies. I know it seems like most teachers ask for a long list of supplies when school begins, but once these supplies are gone, there is usually no funding for more. Although I am no longer teaching elementary school, I still remember those days and try to help my children’s teachers whenever I can. I heard about a new program from Tyson, Project A+, that provides donations for schools just by purchasing over 40 of their products! It’s so simple to sign up. Visit the Project A+ website and “Enroll Your School.” By providing the school’s address, phone number and a project coordinator, your school will be enrolled in the program.
Once your school is enrolled, each label collected from specially marked Tyson chicken products will be worth 24 cents for your school. When the school collects 100 labels, these can be sent in and the school will receive a check in four to six weeks. Of course, it’s perfectly acceptable to save lots of labels and send them all at once, but each 100 labels equals $24 of funding. This funding can be used on anything too, from new playground equipment to books for the library or supplies for teachers. The Tyson site has a detailed explanation along with forms that can be distributed to parents explaining how the program benefits schools.
Be sure to look for products that have this label:
The best part of this is not only does our school receive money, I get quick dinners for nights we are on the go. I know my kids are going to be happy with chicken nuggets and I can serve them plain with dip or turn them into a hearty meal. I whipped up this five ingredient, fifteen minute meal that gives chicken strips or nuggets a grown up flair and is a nice change of pace. I also used a bag of Fully Cooked Frozen Fajita Chicken Strips as a half meal solution in my chipotle chili burritos. These were inhaled before I could snap a picture and tasted so good!
- 1 package Tyson Chicken Tenders or Nuggets
- 1 (15 ounce) bottle Sweet and Sour sauce
- 1 (16 ounce) package stir fry vegetables
- 1 (15 ounce) can pineapple chunks, drained
- 3 cups cooked rice
- Bake chicken tenders or nuggets for 6 to 8 minutes in oven. Chop chicken tenders into bite sized pieces, if using tenders. Place stir fry vegetables in skillet and add sweet and sour sauce. Cook five to ten minutes or until vegetables are heated through. Add chicken and serve over rice.

I think both my kids and I will enjoy this recipe. I will also have to keep on the lookout for those specially marked packages.

Sounds like a great program! I’ll be sure to tell my son’s schools about it. Thanks!
Thanks for the recipe. Looks great. Looks like this is a win win situation for everyone and 24 cents is a good deal of money.
What a great program for teachers, I know they really have to dig into their own pockets for supplies. I LOVE sweet and sour chicken, what a delicious recipe!
I wish the schools luck with this endeavor, especially the teachers. They really do use their own funds to get supplies.
I really love how Tyson is coming up with such tasty and healthy recipe and meal options. We’ve always liked their foods here in our house.
What a great program. I love the looks of this Simple Sweet and Sour Chicken recipe . I will fix this sometime soon!
We love Tyson. I was on a flight and sat next to a guy that worked for Tyson. He definitely made me want to buy their products more often. There are so many great meals that you can make with their foods like the awesome recipe that you have here.
Love this recipe already… this would simple to make for the kids when they come back from school (as a snack to hold until dinner time)

I love this recipe. My son is really into chicken lately.
What a great program too – I need to let our local school know about it.
These used to be my kids lunch or after school food. They are all grown now. Great easy recipe.
I love that they give back. And it looks like it would be easy to make and taste amazing.
this seems so simple, and it a break from the ordinary! I would love to try this 🙂 And the program is so wonderful as well.
What an amazing program! I love that they are giving back… and that by making a meal like this you are also saving time on those super busy school nights! Thanks for the recipe, that looks full of flavor!
This is such a great program! I have a good friend who is a teacher and she speaks of a very similar experience.
This, boxtops and soup labels were always a big thing when my kids were younger. We need to think about schools still needing the help and cutting and sending them in still…thanks for the reminder.
looks delicious pam! i love tyson – my kids really like the chicken fries (and they fit perfectly into their food containers that keep things warm)
i haven’t tried this kind but sweet n sour chicken is one ofmy faves
What a lovely way to help schools out 🙂 I hope it is a really successful campaign for them 🙂 x
Cool! Any ways to help the schools, I am all for it. I love Tyson, too, so I will keep an extra eye out!
We donate items all through the year. My son’s Kindergarten teacher was smart about it, putting out little fancy slips (shaped like bees, hives, etc.) that parents picked up anytime there was a ‘come to the classroom’ function. Parents grabbed a slip and brought in the supply listed on it. She started doing that at Open House, lol.
Tyson is great to be hosting such a useful campaign. I hope they have at ton of success.
I don’t see pineapple listed, but is that in there? I love me some pineapple! The whole recipe sounds great!
By the way, they should have semester budgets for teachers so they can refresh those supplies after the holidays!
