Taking care of pets is hard work. I learn something new every day I need to do for their health. One of the things I discovered from my vet was the importance of ear care. Who knew? It makes sense if we have wax build up in our ears, our pets will too. I was clueless about how to prevent wax buildup until I found Bayer® ExpertCareTM Cat Ear Rinse while browsing at PetSmart. I picked up a bottle and boom, time to let the ear cleaning commence!
The Bayer® ExpertCareTM Cat Ear Rinse is an antiseptic cleansing rinse containing wax-dissolving and drying agents with aloe vera. It has a pleasant, fresh smell, leaving the cats smelling good and not like chemicals. It’s easy to use too. The rinse is applied to the ear canal once or twice a week. We finish by gently massaging the base of the ear. This helps remove accumulated wax and any crust. We finish by gently wiping the ear with a cotton ball. Note: Never insert a cotton swab into your cat’s ear as this could cause damage.
I’ll be honest and say this is a process we only do once a week. Our cats are not thrilled to have any sort of grooming they don’t perform themselves, so it is a two person job. The procedure is quick and painless if one of us hold the cat while the other applies the solution and massages the base of the ear. The grand total of ear cleaning time usually takes about five minutes per cat. I like to use this as a follow up to using the Bayer® ExpertCareTM Cat Coat Cleansing Foam I reviewed last month. The ExpertCareTM Cat Ear Rinse is available in a four ounce size. I think, in a single cat home using the product once a week, it should last for quite a while.
The antiseptic rinse is also available in a formula for dogs. We use this on Rio, the dog, following the same process as for cats. I have to say, ear care is much easier with dogs. He doesn’t mind the procedure at all and happily sits until we are through, waiting for a treat. I hope, in the future, Bayer® develops this Ear Rinse for rabbits too.
What is your must have product for your pets?

I never knew they made ear cleaning solution for animals. I wish I knew about this when I had our sweet dog! He constantly struggled with clogged ears!
I have 3 cats and I’ve never thought about cleaning out their ears! I need to check this out asap!
I have cockers who need their ears cleaned constantly but I don’t do it, I have the groomer do it every other week when they go in for their baths. I might try and get this so I can save some money.
Oh yes, ear care is so important. When we had a cat he got an ear infection and the vet told us about cleaning their ears.
Oh wow! I seriously never thought about cleaning a cat’s ear! I learn something everyday!
I love having options to care for your pets right at home this way. They truly are like members of the family.
Our little doggy was born sick. 🙁 He is the result of pedigree attempts that combine siblings together. So we take extra good care of him! Will take a look at this product.
We had a dog with chronic ear infections. It was so sad to see her hurting. I need to pick some up for my dog so we don’t go through that again.
lol on the grooming. Been there done that one too. 🙂
I used to have to clean my dogs ears. I need to get some of this for my cats. I hope they sit as well as yours does.
I didn’t know Bayer made these type of products. I have a friend whose dog is constantly having issues with her ears and I think this might be something that would help. I need to pass this info on.
My dog had an ear infection issue. It’s important to clean the ears every day to avoid this.
I am going to tell my husband about this… he is the one trims nails and cleans ears for our cat.
I don’t think my cats have had issues with their ears but my dog has routinely had problems with her ears. I should check this out for her.
We do not have any pets. This product sounds like it really is helpful to keep ears clean and to avoid future issues.
This sounds like a great product to have around. With our cat it would probably take some getting used to but it would be beneficial!
Oh, goodness! This looks like a fantastic product. I normally wipe out our CoCo’s ears with a plain q-tip. She LOVES it (I guess it feels good)
What a pretty kitty! Our dog has the WORST ears, and although they aren’t folded, his left ear constantly is getting infected. Cleaning is a daily routine for us.
Wow. All I could focus on was the fact that your cat was still! You must have the most well behaved cat in the history of cats.
Oh this is good to know. I’ll have to get some for my kitty.
I didn’t know you needed to do anything with a cats ears. I will share this with family and friends that have cats.
I never really knew either, but now we have to make sure we do something about it.
We need this for our cats. I’m sure they need a cleaning.
I always forget about Milo’s ears. I am going to pick some of this up for him since they make it for dogs, too!
