How to Make a Bird Feeder From Old Tea Cups

I had thought when my children grew a little older I would have plenty of time to experiment with all the complicated crafts, art projects and recipes I had saved over the years. Imagine my surprise to discover I am still as busy as I ever was! The complicated crafts and recipes will have to wait a while longer. Instead, I have developed my crafty side by focusing on easy crafts and recipes. I want things that still look cute or taste good, but aren’t going to take a long time to prepare.  If they look like they’ve taken a long time to prepare and people thank me for my effort,  even better!

Recently I stumbled across a new to me site, P&Geveryday, offering content and resources on beauty, family, food, health, home and more.  Their aim is to “inspire, support and empower you to unlock the extraordinary potential in your everyday life” and “to make every day just a little easier by helping you achieve a life full of rewarding moments.”    That’s important to me because many times I only have a moment before I am interrupted!  While browsing their site I found “7 Ways to Repurpose Teacups.” I had been planning to remake over my patio and one of the ideas, How to make a bird feeder, stood out.
bird feeder step 1

Here’s all you need to make it:
1 Old teacup
1 saucer or plate
1 scoop of birdseed
1 hanger or strong wire
Super Glue

If you don’t have teacups or plates you want to use, stop by the thrift store. Our local store had a range of cups, saucers and plates from 25 to 50 cents.  I was able to stock up on a supply of cups and saucers for around three dollars.  I wanted to hang my feeder from the dogwood tree behind my patio, so I purchased a special wire made for hanging bird feeders.  This was a little more expensive than just using fishing wire or a hook, costing around two dollars.  The project was super easy to make, taking around five minutes to create.  The drying time was extra. Be warned: the heavier the cup you use, the longer it will take to dry and hold.

Want to make one for yourself? Here’s how:
Wash and dry the cup and saucer. Tilt the cup onto it’s side and glue onto the plate. You might have to prop the cup into place until it dries, especially if it is heavy.  After the cup is dry, add birdseed and hang onto a hook in the garden or on a wire into a tree.  This looks adorable, can be made to match outdoor decor and is very inexpensive! The total cost (without birdseed) came to around $3.50.  It would be even less expensive if you have the items lying around the house or didn’t use a special wire.

Let me know if you make the bird feeder. I would love to see pictures of your creation.
