I was provided with a complimentary meal at the Bistro Alex All opinions are my own.
It was the 4th of July and a night of celebration. My son and I were in Houston and decided to dine at the Bistro Alex, located in the Hotel Sorella in West Houston’s upscale CityCentre. When we arrived we were immediately ushered to a table where the waitress appeared with our menus, a plate of flatbread and recommendations on the specials and her personal favorites. We decided to begin the meal with a crab cake appetizer, described as made from “roasted poblano aioli, corn, parsley, sweet piquillo pepper sauce”. I loved the presentation and the flavor of this dish, but my son and I had planned to share the appetizer and it was a little on the small side for two.
We followed this with the Scallops and Shrimp for me and the Prime New York Strip for my son. My dish came with three huge scallops, cooked to fork tenderness and a creamy risotto. I wish the shrimp in my dish had been a bit more abundant. My son’s dish included loaded mashed potatoes and butter braised brussel sprouts. I noticed he devoured the potatoes quickly so they must have been delicious. We finished our meal with tiramisu and chocolate cake. Beware, the chocolate cake is tasty but very rich! It’s served with a raspberry sauce and topped with Chantilly cream. We could have easily split this dessert.
Our server was wonderful, popping in often to ask how we were doing and offer drink refills. While the ambiance was definitely more of an adult nature, think a romantic evening or a girlfriend’s night out, I noticed the servers were patient and accommodating to the children seated in booths near me. I heard one ask if the restaurant served chocolate milk and the server answered that while they didn’t serve it, they would be happy to make a chocolate milk for her.
I didn’t try any of the alcoholic beverages but the Bistro Alex had a large wine and drink selection plus a seasonally changing menu of cocktails. They also have a bar downstairs with outdoor seating and a variety of appetizers. Did I mention that the Bistro Alex has free parking that is easy to navigate? That was a huge plus for me, although valet parking is available if desired. I was informed that the Bistro Alex was having a menu makeover in the upcoming weeks so if you visit you might have a new menu to sample. I love your pictures! We really enjoyed our dinners at Bistro Alex. Like Kristin, though, we didn’t have dessert, but I wish we had!
I wish we’d had dessert. We were so anxious our children were disturbing the ambiance that we rushed out.
