Easy Brownie Trifle Recipe

Can you believe the holidays are almost here? If you are like me, you have a whirlwind of activities in November and December. I usually host Thanksgiving Dinner for our extended family and a Christmas Eve Dinner for my family. We also have the Christmas Dinner at my Mother-in-law’s,  holiday potlucks with friends, and general holiday craziness.  All-in-all it adds up to a lot of cooking. That’s why I like to keep a repertoire of simple recipes on hand, like this easy Brownie Trifle Recipe.

Easy Brownie Trifle Recipe:

While I have plenty of “made from scratch” recipes, I’m not above using a recipe with prepackaged ingredients.  This brownie trifle recipe is super easy and is constantly requested by family and friends. When I bring it to family dinners, it is the first dessert to disappear. My nieces even request I make them their own bowl for their birthdays so they don’t have to share.

Recipe Type: dessert

This quick and easy brownie trifle recipe is made from prepackaged ingredients. It’s the perfect time saver when you don’t want to bake entirely from scratch. It can be made gluten-free too.
Ingredients
  • 1 box of brownie mix (18.3 ounces), prepared as directed on package
  • 1 (3 ounces) package instant chocolate pudding mix, prepared as directed on package
  • 3 Heath candy bars, chopped or 1 cup toffee chips
  • 1 (3 ounces) Milk Chocolate Candy bar, chopped OR 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips
  • 1 (12 Ounces) container whipped topping
  • 3 tablespoons hot fudge ice cream topping, warmed
  • 3 tablespoons caramel ice cream topping, warmed
Instructions
  1. Prepare the brownies as directed on the package. Allow the brownies to cool.
  2. While brownies are cooling, prepare the instant chocolate pudding mix as directed on the package.
  3. Crumble the prepared brownies into a clear dish. I usually use a 1-quart glass Pyrex bowl.
  4. Spread the chocolate pudding evenly over the crumbled brownies.
  5. Top the pudding mixture with either the milk chocolate chips or the candy bar.
  6. Sprinkle ½ of the toffee chips or ½ of the chopped candy bars.
  7. Spread the whipped topping over the chip and toffee layer.
  8. Drizzle the warmed hot fudge sauce and the warmed caramel sauce over the whipped topping.
  9. Sprinkle the remaining toffee chips or chopped Heath bars over the whipped topping.
  10. Store in the fridge.

Quick Cooking Tips:

* To make this into a gluten-free dessert, use a gluten-free brownie mix.
*Use a higher quality brownie mix to give the dessert extra flavor. I like to use Ghiradelli Caramel Brownie Mix.
*Feel free to “jazz it up” a little by adding extras into the brownie mix, like chocolate chips or candy bits.
*To fill a standard trifle dish, you will need to DOUBLE the recipe.
*For whipped topping, I usually use Cool Whip instead of making my own whipped cream.
