I was provided with a complementary stay at the Hotel Sorella during the GoHouston! Travel Campaign hosted by New Creative Writing and Social Media Marketing, home to Money Saving Parent.com.  All opinions are my own.

Hotel Sorella
Travel Tip: The Hotel has free parking available! Park on the 3rd floor of the parking garage and walk into the lobby. Valet parking is available.

I hadn’t been to Houston in years so I jumped at the chance to explore the city over a long 4th of July weekend.   We began our weekend at the Hotel Sorella, a luxury hotel located in West Houston’s CityCentre,  a bustling area of restaurants, shops and a square that featured live entertainment  both nights of our stay.   After my recent parking garage experience in New Orleans, I was concerned about parking here.  I shouldn’t have worried because not only was the garage spacious and easy to navigate, I was able to park on the third floor and walk across a short skylight directly into the hotel lobby.  When we arrived on Thursday we discovered our room was not ready because the hotel was completely booked. This turned out not to be a problem, as the staff checked our luggage, gave us free drink coupons and asked us to relax in the inviting lobby or on the patio while we waited.

Travel Tip: The Hotel Sorella has a complimentary continental breakfast each morning in the lobby.

Our room was everything I expected from an upscale hotel, spacious rooms decorated with a contemporary touch.   We were able to access free wi-fi from our room as well as watch the HBO family channel on the 42” flatscreen television.  The room also contains a stocked mini fridge with a la carte pricing.  I appreciated the well- stocked bathroom with an assortment of thick, fluffy towels.  Added to this were the robes I found in the closet that beckoned me to take a long, steamy shower and relax.    From our room, located on the 4th floor,  we were able to watch a dazzling fireworks display  in  the City Centre courtyard beneath.  Because of the busy holiday weekend and crowds of people teeming in the square, I could hear some noise wafting up to our room.  As a very light sleeper, I believe, in the future, I would ask for a room on a higher floor.

Tip: Ask for a room facing CityCentre for a great view.

For the more active and those with children, the Sorella has a lovely pool, although a bit small, with shaded chaises and lounges to protect against the hot Houston sun.

We wanted to explore the city while we were visiting, but ran into a slight problem. Our GPS was giving inaccurate directions around town.  Upon asking around, we discovered we needed to use Google Maps to find directions.  Thankfully, the Sorella offered a computer center with access to a free printer.  We were able to successfully navigate the city thanks to being able to print directions in the computer center.

My absolute favorite feature of the hotel Sorella was their commitment to guest safety.  The elevators were located directly across from the front desk, making it easy for them to monitor traffic.  We used the elevators around 12 AM one night and discovered they would not work unless we used our room key.  I recommend beginning each day with the free continental breakfast available in the lobby.   The selection included fresh fruit, pastries, cereal, an assortment of juices plus hot coffee drinks made to order.

  1. I agree that the parking is so convenient! Our first night there we scored a spot right by the doors to the skylight! I always worry about parking in city areas, so that was very impressive. Hotel Sorella is really gorgeous.

Hotel Sorella definitely has a lot of safety precautions, and I’m thinking that you can still stay on a lower floor as long as its not on the plaza side.

  14. I moved to Dallas just under a year ago, so Houston sounds like a great weekend trip for us to take. I love that you shared photos of the hotel because I like to see photos of the rooms “for real” when real people stay there instead of the photoshopped rooms that hotels often have in ads. This looks really nice!
