Imagine hordes of hungry teens descending like locusts into the kitchen, greedily devouring everything in sight and then asking, “Do we have anything to eat in this house?” That’s pretty much a scene from my daily life. Let’s just say that finding teen snacks is not easy, especially in the summer when we have more hungry visitors. After hearing, once again, the plea for more food, I headed out to purchase snacks and guess what I found? Pepperidge Farm Goldfish Puffs! The kids had been eating Pepperidge Farm goldfish snacks since they were old enough to clutch one in their grubby little hands, but these were new, bigger puffs, perfect for teens. There were two varieties, Buffalo Wing and Mega Cheese, available at our store so I grabbed a bag of each flavor. After all, I knew we were going to be traveling in the next two weeks and these would be perfect snacks to take along with us in the car.
Then, my son made a discovery that I am sure his sister will be appreciating for months to come. She had recently been diagnosed with Celiac disease and was mourning the loss of all her old favorite snacks, when her brother asked, “Did you know these are Gluten Free?” Yes, a whole new world has been opened up for her! She can still enjoy the classic Goldfish snacks. I’m not sure her brother is as thrilled since that means he has to share his Goldfish puffs!
Since I knew she had been missing snack mix, I managed to whip up a reasonable substitute she could enjoy and perhaps share with the rest of the family. Here’s my recipe for Cheesy Snack Mix.
- 2 cups Goldfish Puffs, in flavor of your choice
- (or mix two different flavors by adding one cup of each)
- 2 cups popcorn
- 1 cup sunflower kernels
- 1/2 grated Parmesan cheese
- Combine Goldfish puffs, popcorn and sunflower kernels. Add Parmesan cheese and stir until well mixed. Makes five cups.
Do you have easy snacks that you prepare during the summer or for after school snacks? Tell us how you feed your starving teens. I’d love to have new ideas for snacks.
What a great snack mix idea! I use up leftover snacks and mix them all together for movie nights. The Goldfish Puffs add a nice twist of flavors!
my daughter loves goldfish and would love this snack mix!
My kids would LOVE these. I haven’t seen them yet at the store but when I do I am buying some.
Great idea!
I made an avocado-pear dip as part of The Secret Recipe Club that my kids liked recently. I wasn’t sure how well it would go over but they both asked for it again the next day for snack. They are not teens (younger) so even better I thought. 🙂
What a great snack idea… we love the Golfish Puffs, too and this will be great for Movie night. Thanks for sharing
This sounds great. I really have to try and find this for my boys. Thanks for sharing the recipe.
We love cheesy goldfish here! Thx for this recipe, my hubby loves this stuff.
Goldfish snacks are becoming favorite everywhere, good and short recipe 🙂
I have been looking for the goldfish puffs at my local store today and couldn’t find them 🙁
I have seen them for the first time yesterday and now with your deliciousness here I am craving them even more!
I really love snacks that are easy to make and that can be packed for on-the-go trips. This looks delicious.
Love these little fat and puffy goldfish! I think your snack mix is great!
I absolutely LOVE regular goldfish crackers – in high school i kind of became “known” for it because i brought them as a snack every day lol. I haven’t seen these new puffs in stores near me yet though, i’ll be sure to check them out when I find them.
I am going to try to find these at the store today hehe.. it’s Saturday and its grocery time and I am hoping I will get some..
You are making me hungry with those photos! I really want to try these.
Going to Target tonight to look for these!
thanks!
Mitch
The kids will love these! I need to pick some up.
My teenage son would love these. I have got to try to find some for him to have for afternoon snacks.
Love your recipe for Cheesy Snack mix! That would be a hit around here. Glad that the PF Gold Fish Puffs are gluten free and that your daughter can enjoy them!
i can’t wait to find these in stores- my kids are going to LOVE them!
I know my Hubs would love these puffs, he likes the Goldfish crackers so…. I guess I need to haul my butt out and get him some.
Now this is a snack mix that my son would crush! He eats sooooo much lately. lol.
My son will love these! I’ve been cutting his sandwiches for school to look like fish and then adding blueberries for “bubbles”. I have to get some of these new goldfish crackers and put them in with his lunch to finish the theme! I can’t wait to see his reaction.
We used to live near a Pepperidge Farm Factory and would buy goldfish in bulk. I miss that! We have good memories of goldfish, so I need to try these new ones. They will be a fun surprise for my husband!
Those buffalo flavored puffs look yum! I generally bake healthy snacks or get out the fruit. But then mine are little folk. I’m sure they would need more to much on when teens.
My kids (and hubby) love these. I’ve never seen a snack disappear so quickly – and things usually go quick in this house.
Whoa!!! I was unaware of this new Goldfish product!! How exciting. And what a yummy mix you created!
