Creamy Mustard Sauce recipe

“Do we have anything in this house to eat?” Since I’ve had teenagers this has been a daily, no wait, hourly question. When I used to hear the expression bottomless pit, I thought it was funny. No one could want that many snacks. Then I had a teenage son. What was once difficult for me to believe has become reality. After hearing the “what’s to eat” question for possibly the fiftieth time in one day, I decided to involve the guys in the cooking process. Earlier in the week while I was at Sam’s purchasing bulk items for the hungry teens, I saw a demo for Tyson Chicken Fries. I knew I could create all kinds of recipes for chicken with the fries or use them for a quick chicken dinner. I’d added a bag to my cart for just such emergencies.

This demo gave me an idea for a quick chicken snack for the boys.

“We’re going to have the fries with some sort of dipping sauces for chicken,” I informed them. I figured this would be a thrill for my son. He and his friends used to get together in the kitchen to make “mixtures” for us to taste. Let’s just say some of them weren’t the best I’d ever had. This time I had the guys search the internet to find a recipe we could use. We used to enjoy the Delta Sauce from a fast food chain in our area and decided to recreate this recipe. The boys got to work, mixing and stirring, while I placed the fries in the oven for a quick chicken dinner. They claimed they followed the directions exactly as written but our recipe didn’t turn out as expected. It had a strong mustard flavor. I had them try again and with a few adjustments we created creamy mustard dip.

He’s test tasting the creamy mustard dip and making recommendations for adjustment.

Even if we don’t make the dips from scratch, the fries will be great snacks on those busy days when we are running out the door to sports practice or when he has friends.  I’m all for anything that feels up a hungry spot, gets me out of the kitchen quickly  and tastes good so the kids will eat it.  Yes, it did surprise me to find teenage boys can be so picky! Who knew, especially since they are never full.
