Chocolate Caramel Pretzel Bites

Decadent little bites of caramel, chocolate, and pretzels that come together in around 10 minutes? It may sound impossible but it’s not with this Chocolate Caramel Pretzel Bites recipe. The combination of sweet and salty is irresistible and they make terrific last-minute gifts.

Chocolate Caramel Pretzel Bites

These are the perfect snack-sized candy. You probably won’t be able to eat just one! Even better, they’re no-bake and so simple that kids can help make them. If you’re planning to serve them for a party or potluck, be sure to allow for 10 to 30 minutes of chilling time for the chocolate to set.

Ingredients needed

What You’ll Need for the Recipe:

  • small pretzel squares
  • Rolo candies
  • milk chocolate melts or milk chocolate chips
  • holiday sprinkles, optional

Cooking Tips:

  • This can be made gluten-free by substituting gluten-free pretzels for the regular pretzels. Because companies sometimes change their recipes or manufacturing techniques, always read the labels to make sure the product is gluten-free.
  • Make sure the bowl and spoon for melting the chocolate are clean and dry before use. Even one drop of water can cause chocolate to “seize.” This means the chocolate is no longer smooth but becomes a thick, gritty paste. When it seizes, it can no longer be used for dipping.
  • An easy way to “smush” the Rolos is to place them on a piece of wax or parchment paper. Then, press firmly down on the top of each Rolo with your thumb or with a cup.
You can substitute crackers, like Ritz, instead of pretzels.

Good Substitutions:

  • You can substitute any type of snack-sized chocolate candy bar for the Rolos. Try Milky Way, Snickers, 3 Musketeers, Reese’s cups, or Hershey’s bars.
  • Instead of milk chocolate, use semi-sweet, dark chocolate, or white chocolate.

What does it mean if my chocolate has a white film?

This happens if the chocolate is stored at temperatures that are either too hot or too cold. It’s called “fat bloom,” a harmless natural chemical reaction caused when liquid fats-such as cocoa butter-move to the surface of the chocolate and crystalize. The chocolate is still safe to eat.

How long do chocolate chips last?

You can store chocolate chips (unopened or opened and in an airtight container) in the pantry for 2 to 4 months. They can also be stored in the fridge for 6 to 8 months, or in the freezer for 2 to 3 years. Milk Chocolate Melts are best used within 18 months of the date they were made. They can also be stored in the fridge or freezer in an airtight container. Chocolate

Ingredients

  • 24 pretzel squares

  • 12 Rolos candies, unwrapped

  • 1 (12-ounce) package milk chocolate candy melts

  • Holiday sprinkles, optional

Directions

  • Press Rolo candies down to make them flat. Place a flattened Rolo on top of a pretzel square. Continue until 12 pretzel squares have a Rolo atop. Cover the Rolo with another pretzel square.
  • In a microwave safe bowl, add the candy melts or chips. Microwave on high for 1 minute, stir. If chocolate is not completely melted, return to microwave for an additional 15 to 20 seconds.
  • Dip each pretzel bite into chocolate mixture, covering completely with chocolate. Place chocolate bites onto a sheet of waxed paper. Place the waxed paper into the fridge or the freezer for 10 to 30 minutes, or until chocolate is set.
  • Store in an airtight container.

To Give as Gifts:

Add the pretzel bites to a colorful holiday treat bag and ties with a ribbon. They also make a good addition in a tin of sweets.
