My kids are big fans of peanut butter. We have so many recipes that include peanut butter, but this Chocolate Peanut Butter Fudge recipe is a perennial favorite for Christmas. It’s no-bake, gluten-free, and I can whip up a batch of this fudge in minutes. Even my son, who is not a fan of quick fudges and prefers the classic kind, deems this as “really good.” Try it with your family and I think you’ll agree it’s the perfect candy for peanut butter fans.
Chocolate Peanut Butter Fudge recipe
I am a huge fan of simple no-bake desserts during the holidays. I don’t know anyone who has time to spend hours in the kitchen? This recipe takes around 10 to 15 minutes of prep time and, as most of my recipes, uses items you can find at any grocery store. It’s also naturally gluten-free.
What you need to make the peanut butter fudge:
- Chocolate melts, chocolate bark, or chocolate chips in your choice of flavor (dark, semi-sweet, milk, or white)
- peanut butter ( I use creamy peanut butter but you can use crunchy peanut butter if you like.)
- Sweetened condensed milk
- vanilla extract (use real vanilla extract, not imitation)
- Marshmallow cream (or Marshmallow fluff-it’s called different things in different regions)
How to prepare the fudge:
- Place the chocolate and sweetened condensed milk in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high for 1 minute. Stir. If chocolate is not completely melted and smooth, return to the microwave for an additional 30 seconds to 1 minute, stirring after every 30 seconds.
- Add vanilla extract. Stir until well mixed.
- Stir in marshmallow cream and peanut butter until blended.
- Place a piece of waxed or parchment paper in a 9″ by 9″ baking dish. Spritz with nonstick cooking spray.
- Scrap fudge evenly into the baking dish. Place in the fridge or the freezer until hardened, approximately 1 to 2 hours. Cut into squares.
Note: Because this fudge is no-bake, it is sticky. Store it in the refrigerator or freezer until ready to serve. Even stored in the freezer it will not become too hard to eat.
Tips for Successful Candy Making
- Many types of candy will not do well if prepared on humid days. Be aware that if you do choose to prepare candy on rainy days it might have a difference in texture or setting time.
- If you choose to prepare candy on a rainy day, the University of Arkansas agriculture extension office recommends cooking it a degree or two higher.
- If the recipe calls for butter, don’t use margarine or spreads. These will cause the candy to spread or not set as it should. You can use either salted or unsalted butter, but if you choose to use salted butter, you might want to adjust the amount of salt used in the recipe.
- Use fresh ingredients. They really do make a difference in the way the candy tastes.
- Be sure to store the candy in airtight containers. Store various types of candy separately until ready to serve or gift.
