Cookies and Creme Protein Snack

It’s official. I have reached middle age. All the nutrition habits I have developed over the years no longer work. Those toaster pastries and cans of soda for breakfast, the grab and go fast food for lunch, the quick snacks of a cookie or chips belong in the past. I can’t freely consume them without gaining weight. I didn’t reach this conclusion easily, but went kicking and screaming when I discovered a good portion of my summer clothing no longer fit. I realized I needed to switch out my On the go snacks to high protein snacks that would keep me feeling full longer. While browsing the cereal aisle at Walmart, I found the new Life Choice Wellness snack bar. I decided to give them a try and see if they could control my appetite.

My new snack choice!

What’s so special about Life Choice? Each bar has 15 grams of protein, 3 grams of fiber and 15 vitamins and minerals. I’ve been substituting one of the Fudge Graham bars for my breakfast each morning and discovered I feel full longer than if I ate something high in fat. When I am full I am much less likely to reach for a fatty snack. To add variety and keep from getting bored for eating the same thing, I investigated protein bar recipes. I couldn’t find one, so I created my own!

Here’s my incredibly simple two ingredient Cookies and Crème dessert protein bar recipe:
1 Wellness Life Choice Bar, dark chocolate flavor
1 1/2 cups (12 ounces) lowfat vanilla yogurt

Chop the protein bar in a blender for 15 seconds. Add to the lowfat vanilla yogurt and mix well. Pour into four silicone cupcake molds or into popsicle molds and place in the freezer for an hour. Serve with no fat whipped cream on top and a drizzle of sugar free syrup if you want it to be extra special. I’m able to enjoy #barnutrition and still feel like I am snacking!
