Bryan has a weakness for Barbeque. When finding places to eat on Restaurant.com for a recent trip to Mississippi, , he found Dickey’s Barbque Pit in Laurel. Although it is a chain restaurant, none are available in our area and we had never heard of Dickey’s before. The exterior of the building was nothing fancy, but we were reassured by the sign proclaiming, “since 1941.” Obviously a restaurant chain can’t stay in business for over 70 years if they aren’t doing something right!
Once inside we decided to try the “Friday Special,” a serving of Barbque, two side items, a roll and a beverage of choice for $8.99. We stood in line for our order and then examined the three different types of barbeque sauce available while our order was being prepared. After a short wait our order was delivered. I chose the Pulled Pork plate, along with Fried Onion Tanglers and Barbeque Beans as sides. The Fried Onion Tanglers were their version of a Bloomin’ Onion, and served with a side of dipping sauce, disappeared quickly as I shared them with the rest of the family. The Barbeque beans were also tasty, with a rich barbeque flavor and lots of meaty goodness.
My son ordered the potato salad, a yummy sour cream blend, and didn’t seem responsive to my suggestion to help him finish it. I felt the portions were fairly large and couldn’t finish my meal. When I offered the rest of my meal to my son, who will freely admit barbeque is “not his favorite,”, he told me, “Yes, I will take it. This is really good.”
While we were purchasing our meal, the manager reminded us they serve complimentary soft serve ice cream with every meal. Some people were saving their “Big Yellow Cups” our beverages were served in to make coke floats for dessert. If we are in Laurel, Mississippi this is one restaurant we will be visiting again! A quick FYI for anyone who has a Dickey’s Barbeque Pit in their area: kids eat free on Sundays.
I am a member of the Restaurant.com review crew, but all opinions are my own.
Dickey’s Bar-b-que looks amazing & the Barbque looks absolutely delicious, but we would prefer chicken instead of pork always. I would love to step in when we get a chance to travel there.
I think we have one here in Katy, but I don’t think I have ever had Dickeys. Looks so yummy
I haven’t heard of this restaurant, but it looks amazing!
That BBQ looks so tasty. So does that side of beans. There’s nothing like a good BBQ spot.
BBQ pork sandwiches are one of my favorite things to eat. Now I want some BBQ!!!
I love down south BBQ, especially if it is in a small place like this. You have me drooling now!
Free ice cream with your meal!? That alone is a reason to go but I love BBQ!! Plus you mentioned Kids eat FREE on Sundays? Holy cow I gotta find one of these Dickey’s!
Looks like I need to come to Laurel, Mississippi for some BBQ! My mouth is watering.
Ah I do love when you get free ice cream. That small size is just perfect too. 🙂
Barbecue isn’t the most popular where I am however we took a road trip to Texas and loved finding great barbecue in little ‘joints’ like this one. If we are ever in Mississippi, I’ll check this out.
My husband would love to eat here. He loved BBQ and ate it often when he was stationed down South for the Army.
We love BBQ and just recently went to a Dickey’s Barbeque Pit, it not super close to us so we can’t go often but we will be back!
Dickey’s is our favorite BBQ spot. We adore their fabulous beef brisket, sour cream potato salad, and the onion tanglers.
The food at Dickey’s Barbque Pit looks so delicious. BBQ is my favorite. If i am ever in the area i will be sure to check them out.
We love barbecue! We haven’t eaten at Dickey’s before, but that pulled pork looks super delicious. I wish there is a Dickey’s close to us.
I haven’t eaten at Dickey’s before, but it looks great. You can’t go wrong with pulled pork! Plus, I’ll never turn down free dessert.
I’m always looking for new, fun places to eat. This sounds like a yummy place to get a bite to eat.
Wow, kids eat free on Sunday. Now there is a great deal. You always find the best restaurants. This looks like another great find.

I love barbecue and this place looks amazing! I wish I lived closer!
This looks awesome. I haven’t ever eaten at a BBQ joint, I need to check Toronto to see if we have anything like this. Would love to head over and try some!
Dickey’s is one of my boyfriend’s favorites. It’s heaven for meat lovers! There are a few pretty close to where I live.
Dickey’s was on restaurant.com? That is awesome. I love Dickey’s but sadly ours closed.
Oh if I’m ever in Mississippi I will most certainly have to stop in here and get a bite. Sounds like an amazing place to eat at.
OOh, I wish we had a BBQ place like that here. I love pulled pork – it’s a guilty pleasure!
My hubby loves bbq too and that looks like a cool restaurant. I have never heard of it. Good to know that kids eat free on Sunday, that is always a bonus.
I enjoy a good BBQ dinner too. The soft serve is a nicr touch.
I ate Dickeys this week! I’m obsessed with their fried okra.
That sounds like a great restaurant. We’re kosher, so we wouldn’t have pork, but I’m sure they have some amazing chicken and beef dishes.
Dickey’s looks great. If we ever get out that way, we’ll definitely be stopping there!
Same here. After reading this, how could I not stop in for some nom noms!
I love southern barbecue. We just don’t have good BBQ food like this up here in the north.
