This week I added another first to my blogging career– a video interview with Danielle Smith, founder of Extraordinarymommy.com and author of “Mom, Incorporated: A Guide to Business + Baby” and the soon to be released, “Social Media Engagement for Dummies.” I chatted with Danielle about how to save in the supermarket, a favorite topic for me, how to feed my family tasty, nutritious dishes featuring pork and another favorite topic, blogging. (And yes, I know I have a Southern accent. Bear with me.)
I’m sharing some of Danielle’s Best Tips:
1. Spend smartly at the grocery store. Even if you don’t clip coupons or shop the sales, there are ways to save in the grocery aisles. The trick is knowing where to find the best bang for your buck, especially when choosing proteins. I didn’t realize I could save money by purchasing Porterhouse Pork Chops. They are 42% less expensive than the Porterhouse Beef Steak according to data released by the USDA.
2. Think fresh, not fancy. Summer is the easiest season to take advantage of nature’s bounty. There are so many fresh fruits and vegetables available. Buying fresh, seasonal produce at the peak of ripeness ensures the food will be full of flavor without needing lots of expensive “extras” to taste great. Plus, cooking your summer meals on the grill is an easy way to infuse extra flavor.
3. Plan ahead. Deciding on your menu for the upcoming week and creating a detailed shopping list allows you to save time and money at the grocery store. When you know exactly what you need, you won’t wander aimlessly adding unnecessary things to your cart. Yes, I have been guilty of this in the past!
4. Involve your Children. Including your entire family – even the small people – in both the meal planning and cooking process ensures that your family will be sitting down to eat meals that everyone will enjoy!
Do you have any tips you’d like to share for grilling pork? Perhaps a favorite pork recipe?
We do lots of pork. Love tenderloins in cooler months!!!
Great interview I love your accent my friend
I love the tips on how to save at the grocery store. It’s always great to save a little money on groceries the way food prices are these days.
Great interview and I love your southern accent. When I’m on video I tend to use the word um a lot. It’s so annoying.
We eat pork once a week in our home and love it! These are some great tips!
This makes me want to buy more pork myself! 🙂

I don’t buy pork that often, but we do love pork chops.
Great tips too.
OK, now I have pork on my grocery shopping list because I want to grill some for dinner! We are going to a pool party at lunch, so it sounds like a fun idea for dinner.
Oh how awesome and love your Southern accent, so cute! I don’t cook with pork much, but I love what I’ve learned here. I am really excited to try that salsa recipe that she shared!
We grill a lot of pork during the summer, it certainly is less expensive than other cuts of meat and BBQ pork is my favorite. Great tips, I need to get a lot better at planning meals ahead of time, it would totally be a money and time saver.
We aren’t the biggest fans of pork, but I do make pork chops on occasion. Never grilled it, though!! Those are great spending tips.
I had never thought about it until I watched this interview, but it’s true that pork is less expensive and I like that you can feed four people for less than $10.
