Georgia weather has been strange this winter. We’ve been hit with rare freak snowstorms that leave us stranded in the house for days on end. To combat the boredom, I decided it was time for a movie night. I didn’t want this to be just any old movie night and decided to jazz things up a bit with a DIY popcorn bar. I started preparing for my bar by heading to World Market and choosing several of their gourmet flavors of popcorn, including Olive Oil and Herb, White Cheddar, Movie Theater and Garlic and Parmesan. One of my children is a huge fan of the specialty flavored popcorns like cherry, cinnamon and grape, but doesn’t get them often because of the price tag attached to them. He was in luck because I happened to find a recipe to make flavored popcorns for a fraction of the cost. I whipped up a batch of Cherry flavored popcorn and added it to our bar as well.
I wanted to give the kids a special treat, but had the flu and didn’t feel like cooking, so I created these Caramel Toffee Popcorn Bars. They only have five ingredients, take less than ten minutes to make and taste a-maz-ing. I may or may not have blown my diet consuming a large amount of these bars while the kids only got a sample. It is okay though, I can make more in a matter of minutes and as long as I keep them away from me, they should be able to have yummy treats. I suggest not telling anyone how easy these treats are to make. People will think you fussed.
- 1 (7.5 ounce jar) Marshmallow Fluff
- 1 cup (8 ounces) Toffee Chips
- 12 cups popped popcorn
- 3/4 cup (6 ounces) Dulce de leche
- 3/4 cup (6 ounces) white chocolate chips
- Melt marshmallow fluff in a microwave safe bowl for 45 seconds. In a large bowl, add the melted marshmallow fluff, toffee chips and popcorn. Mix well. Place mixture in a greased 9″ by 13″ baking dish. Place dulce de leche in microwave safe bowl, heat for 45 seconds to one minute. Drizzle over the top of popcorn mixture. Melt white chocolate chips for one minute in microwave. Stir. Drizzle mixture over top of caramel. Place in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to harden.
*To make my recipe I used the following products; Marshmallow Fluff, Gaucho Ranch Dulce De Leche, and Guittard Cafe-Au-Lait Chips.
To make our bar even more fun, I added popcorn boxes and napkins. The kids could use some of the add ins and create their own popcorn mixtures. I served each type of popcorn in cute popcorn bowls and added specialty sodas that we served in sherbet glasses with cute straws. It was super simple to use PicMonkey to create some cute tags for all our dishes. We created a memorable evening without having to leave the house.
