How to Make A Dog Treat Bag & First Aid Kit

The first thing I noticed yesterday morning as I stepped outside was the nip in the air.  I knew fall had officially arrived. Fall at our house means a lot of things. Evenings spent on our patio sitting around the fire pit making smores, tailgating, and of course, hiking. It’s the perfect time to visit all the local State Parks, mostly nestled in the mountains, in our area.  Of course, we bring along Rio, the smallest, furriest member of the family.  With Rio accompanying us on our Fall adventures, it’s important to make sure he stays safe. That’s why we pack a “Doggie To Go Treat Bag.” It includes items for a Dog First Aid Kit and special supplies to keep him ready to “Fuel the Wag.” I keep this bag stashed in my trunk for anytime Rio travels along with us.

How to Make a Dog Treat Bag & First Aid Kit

The first thing I did was purchase a small, portable lunch bag to hold our supplies. I chose this because it easily fits into a backpack while we are hiking, but any sort of container will do. If you want to get creative, there are all sorts of ways to personalize the outside of the lunch box. You could cross stitch or embroider your pet’s name onto the outside, paint their name, or whatever you choose. It’s a great way to get kids involved in the project.
Fuel The Wag Bag

I added basic first aid supplies to our kit. Some good items to include are:

*cotton balls or cotton swabs
*gauze and/or gauze pads
*an ice pack
*Antibacterial ointment
*a small flashlight
(Other good items to keep in the car are a towel or blanket. In case of injury, you can quickly and easily wrap them up. )

Then I added some treats to make sure we make the most of our time in the outdoors. I included:

*a chew toy
*a ball for playing fetch
*a rope pull toy for tug of war

Nature's Recipe Dog Food

I didn’t want him to be hungry and thirsty if we were out too long. After all, it’s important for him to stay hydrated and keep up his energy. I included:

*a bottle of water (a collapsible water bowl is a good addition too!)
*a plastic zip-locked bag filled with food. We use Nature’s Recipe. You can use this coupon to get $3 back when you purchase any Nature’s Recipe Product. How’s that for a good deal?

Rio Eating Dog Food

When I stopped by Food Lion to pick up our snacks for hiking, I also purchased a bag of Nature’s Recipe. It’s filled with high-quality ingredients. There’s no poultry by-product meal and no corn or wheat. Until recently, Nature’s Recipe was only sold in pet specialty stores, but since they are now selling in grocery stores, I can grab a bag at Food Lion. Since they have a 35-year history of premium recipes, it makes me feel good knowing Rio is receiving the proper nutrition to help him Fuel the Wag. You can use this link to learn more about Nature’s Recipe and how you can help your dog “Fuel the Wag” this Fall.
Rio and Nature's Recipe

There are lots of other items that could be included in a Dog Treat Bag and First Aid Kit, but I wanted to keep ours small and portable. The possibilities to include in the kit are endless and can be varied to suit your dog’s tastes. Does he prefer to play Frisbee rather than fetch? Change up the toys to blend with your pet’s personality! Does he have a favorite treat? Add that! Does he have a tendency to break leashes? Add an extra leash or collar to the bag.

  23. Our Family World

My dog is a Shih Tzu and because this breed is short-legged with a short snout, I cannot take him for long walks. because he tires easily. We do take short walks around the block. He loves that! If I take him in the car with me for a trip, I always make sure I have his feeding dish with me, some treats and a bottle of water. Thank you for sharing the $3 discount coupon for Nature Recipe dog food.
