This year I decided I would finally make the home office I had dreamed of for years. I had big ideas and decided I would slowly furnish my office as I found functional pieces I liked. Since I am a laptop kind of gal, I wanted a comfy place to recline with my laptop, but a piece that could ultimately double as a bed if needed. I added a comfy daybed in January and planned to find other items as they caught my eye. This posed a problem, as the rest of the pieces in the room consisted of a scratched, beat up desk belonging to my husband as a child, a chair and a bookcase. The room was in need of some serious sprucing up.
One of my problems was the cork board above the desk. I liked having it available to post reminders of things I needed to do, but it lacked a certain something, like attractiveness. Browsing through the home section of Kohl’s I found this Enchante Accessories Framed Cork Board and this Mixed Company Bulletin Board. With my theme of rustic decor in mind, I knew these would look much better as replacement pieces. Fun, pretty and functional? What more did I need?
As I discovered, lots of things! I wanted to corral all my papers into one place where I wouldn’t have to try to remember where I had put them. What better way to accomplish this than with a set of baskets? I found rustic metal baskets with burlap liners, matching my theme. Even better, they had handles so I could carry them from room to room without spilling papers. (And, yes, sadly, that is a problem. I drop papers all the time.)
Finally, I wanted something to relax me and remind me not to stress myself out when I was working. I found these Live, Laugh, Love candles and decided they would help me remember to get out and enjoy life. Plus, adding a scented tealight in a soothing scent might help when I am on a deadline!
I was pleased with the end result. It’s much more comfortable, attractive and functional. Now to decide what to do with the desk!

Framing two bulletin boards was a great idea – it adds decor but also keeps things looking neat.
You need to do that desk in shabby chic – white distressed look would be pretty. Love the difference those small changes made!!
