Every year, around the holidays, I crave Harry & David’s Moose Munch. We used to visit Pigeon Forge for an extended family holiday weekend each year, and I would stop by their store and indulge my cravings. Since that’s not happening this year, I decided to make my own copycat Moose Munch Recipe. While it’s a little different than their version, it’s easy to make using prepackaged ingredients.
Copycat Moose Munch Recipe
The beauty of this recipe is that you can make so many variations with just a few adaptations. Plus, my version costs much less than Harry and David’s. If you need a snack for a holiday party, this recipe can be whipped up in around 10 minutes, although it does need a minimal chilling time to harden. This is a great no-bake holiday recipe to make with the kids.
What You’ll Need for the Moose Munch:
- Caramel Corn (such as Fiddle Faddle or Crunch n Munch)
- Peanuts (or nuts of your choice)
- Sno-caps candy
- Chocolate candy of your choice (like Sixlets or M&MS) in holiday colors (we used red, green, and white)
- Chex Cereal (we used Corn Chex)
- White Chocolate Melts or White Chocolate Chips
- Food paste gel, optional – I use Wilton’s.
I purchased all Crunch N Munch, Sno-caps, and Sixlets at the Dollar Store for $1 each. The peanuts, Corn Chex, and white chocolate melts were purchased from Aldi.
Good Substitutions:
- Replace white chocolate melts or chips with milk chocolate or semi-sweet chocolate chips.
- Add your favorite candy or toffee chips to the mixture.
Cooking Tips:
- The ingredients I used made the Moose Munch naturally gluten-free.
- GLUTEN-FREE Tip- While all of these ingredients are presently gluten-free, be sure to read the labels. Sometimes the manufacturer changes the ingredients without warning.
- If you are using white chocolate chips, you’ll need to add 1 tablespoon of shortening to allow the chocolate to properly harden.
- The easiest (and less messy) way to harden the chocolate is to place a piece of waxed or parchment paper on a baking sheet. Then, spread the Moose Munch mixture evenly across the paper. Place in the refrigerator or freezer for 10-30 minutes or until the chocolate is firm.
- To quickly melt the chocolate chips or chocolate bark, place the chips or bark in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high for 45 seconds. Remove from the microwave and stir. If not completely melted, return the mixture to the microwave for another 15 to 30 seconds.
- Instead of mixing the white chocolate into the popcorn, spread the mixture onto the piece of waxed paper and drizzle the chocolate over the mixture.
