Every Halloween since the kids were in elementary school we’ve spent Halloween at a friend’s house. She lives in a huge subdivision that overflows with children. Even though both sets of our kids are grown, we still arrange for everyone to get together and enjoy dinner before passing out candy to the new generation of trick-or-treaters. It’s such a tradition that our kids still come, bringing girlfriends, boyfriends, husbands, and our new generation of mini treaters. Our dinner menu is pretty basic. We purchase pizza. Our dessert menu, on the other hand, is anything but simple. We all try our hand at creating fun new desserts and we always wash them down with this Zombie Punch recipe.
Zombie Punch Recipe for Halloween
This Zombie punch recipe is a variation of our basic punch recipe we use all year round. We use different combinations of ingredients for Christmas, Thanksgiving, 4th of July, baby showers, wedding showers, you name it. We have a slightly different variation for all of them. The good thing about this punch is that it requires two basic ingredients- lemon-lime soda and sherbet. It’s also naturally gluten-free. The zombie punch recipe version has four ingredients. Best of all, they are easy to find ingredients so there’s no hunting all over town or online in the last minute search to find them. Since it’s also caffeine-free I don’t have to worry (as much) about a caffeine and sugar overload before bedtime for the kids.
Here’s what you need
Lemon-lime soda- You can use Sprite, 7-Up, store brand or whatever floats your boat. I often use diet Sprite to keep the calorie-count down.
Green food coloring
Lemon- lime sherbet
Body Parts Candy- I purchased a bag at the dollar store for around $2.
How to Make it
1. Make sure the lemon-lime soda is well chilled. Pour the soda into a punch bowl. Or just use a large bowl if you don’t have a punch bowl.
2. Add a few drops of green food coloring to the lemon-lime soda. Start with three to five and add more if needed to achieve the color you desire. Stir until blended.
3. Use an ice cream scoop (or whatever you have on hand), and add scoopfuls of the sherbet to the top of the punch until all sherbet is used.
4. When serving punch add one candy body part to each glass.
Voila! You’ve got a spooky recipe with minimal work, which is my favorite kind of recipe.
