When my daughter went away to college, she packed everything in the house but the kitchen sink. Maybe that is a slight exaggeration, but not by much. This year, as my son goes away to college, I am better prepared with tips I’ve learned and tips shared with me by other parents. Let’s face it, move in day is hectic, rushed and can be frustrating. These five tips, which are sponsored by Lunchbox, though all opinions are my own, will help save time, hassle and a lot of annoyance.
1. Buy everything you need before you arrive. If your child is going to school in an area that is mainly a college town, everything, and I mean everything, will be sold out. Make a list and check it twice to be sure you’ve got the supplies you need.
2. Pack your supplies in totes. The tote system is so much easier than packing in boxes. They can be used for under the bed storage since college dorm rooms are notoriously small on space and reused at the end of each semester.
3. Write your child’s name and room number on each of the totes. Most colleges ask for parents to drive up, unload, and move their vehicle. Writing the name and room number on the totes ensures they will arrive at their room safely when someone grabs them up to help with moving.
4. Pack some of their favorite items and sneak them in as a surprise. Most people, no matter what their age, like surprise packages. Giving the kids some of their favorite snacks, a gift card to a favorite restaurant and other small items can go a long way to alleviate homesickness.
5. Make sure they have personal hygiene items. If you need some hygiene items for your favorite guy, check out these AXE, Degree, Dove Men+Care, and Suave Men Heriage products. Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Walmart are teaming up to help shoppers get legendary looks with the best grooming products made for the modern man.

I remember the day we moved my daughter in to her dorm last year. We had tons of boxes. Thanks for these tips will use them when my middle daughter goes to move into her dorm in 2 years. My oldest decided to live in an apartment off campus.
I am going to pick up these items and put them in a gift basket for a guy I know headed out to college this week. These are all manly essentials.

These are wonderful tips. packing in totes will make things easier.
We sent two sons off to college but it has been awhile. These are great tips. I think organization is the key and it is great to make sure they have what they need right from the beginning. Once they get started, they will have little time to go shopping to get what they have forgotten.
These are some great tips. I think I would probably pack everything and thensome. I tend to do that whenever we go on vacation.
My daughter’s big day is coming up next week. Thanks for the tips
I am so not looking forward to this day. It makes me sad.
My step sons are not there at college level yet. The oldest one just graduated and is taking a years break. The other kids are not ready for college yet. But boy do the boys love their ax spray. There should be a serving size for the guys to know one spray is plenty
Oh I remember move it day like it was yesterday. Good tips, thanks for posting.

Pack like you are going on a trip. Make sure they have everything you listed, along with a supply of medicine like Tylenol, tummy medicine and cold medicine.
Great tips! I have a little bit before the college picture comes in, but these are really great ideas. I like the plastic container that fits under the bed! I use them now in the house and I know they will come in handy when my kids are headed for college!
Awesome tips. My step son leaves in 3 weeks for college and he will need these,
