This is a partnered post with Purina Waggin’Train, but all opinions are my own.
Life can be hectic. We spend so much time rushing from one place to another we forget to stop and smell the roses (or whatever flowers might be growing in our yard.) I was tired of always feeling rushed, so I decided to dedicate a few minutes each day to “savor simple” moments in life either by myself, with family members, or with our pets. I realized taking a short break, even if it is only ten minutes a day, to savor simple moments made me happier, and who doesn’t feel better when mom is happy? Here are five of our favorite low cost ways to savor the simple moments.
1. Eat dinner as a family. I know this is more difficult than it sounds. Schedule conflicts mean we can’t always enjoy a meal together, but we try to eat together at least once a week and discuss what’s going on in our lives.
2. Take the dog for a walk. I try to take Rio to the local national park whenever I have a chance. We both enjoy spending time together and he thinks it is a special treat. Bonus points that we both get exercise! After our walk is over we get in some quick cuddles and he gets a treat, like the new Waggin’ Train Chicken Jerky Minis, Waggin’ Train Homestyle Chicken Jerky Tenders and Waggin’ Train Chicken Jerky Curls. They’re 100% real, with simple ingredients and no artificial flavors, colors or preservatives so I can feel good about treating him.
3. Spend a few minutes a day on your favorite hobby. I love to read so I always set aside a few minutes before bed to read a book purely for pleasure. Sometimes my few minutes run much longer if I get to an interesting chapter!
4. Purchase a favorite treat. Our entire family loves a certain brand of ice cream. Occasionally we will purchase a scoop for each family member then drive to the park and eat our cone while watching the sun set or deer play in the distance.
How do you savor the simple moments with your family, pets or just by yourself?
Sweet ideas to savor our special moments – I often get so caught up and have tunnel vision, that now I make it a point to walk/jog my dogs often and take 45 min to read a favorite book each day as my treat breaks – Wagon Train has been around a long while and makes great doggy treats, I had forgotten
We do the first three every single day! I think eating a meal together as a family is so important – this one is non-negotiable, as is walking the dog. A little ‘me time’ to spend on a hobby is a sanity-saver.
If only I could be by myself, those days are nonexistent for me. When I do get some alone time though I tend to just relax in my bed.
I make it a point to have family dinners every single night. It’s so important to me. I did it with my mom before losing her at 16, so I make sure we do it every night. These are great tips!
I would love to have time on my own but I sometimes feel guilty when I leave my family behind.I guess I just craze some quiet time. A walk with the dog would suffice for now.
Take a look at the small things, they add up to the big stuff 🙂 I was just talking about this to someone I know and I’ll share the post with them 🙂
These are awesome tips! Eating together as a family is a must for us. We also try to walk and hike as a family.
Taking dogs for a walk is such a great idea. Being outdoors is key!
Great suggestions. I think eating dinner as a family is a must. It is a time of discussing your day!
Eating dinner as a family is great. I have the best memories of us eating together as a family.
Having a nice relaxing walk every day is definitely a good one. Seeing the dog find enjoyment from the simplest things is great.
These are all great ideas. We do a family bowling league on Friday nights and we always spend Sunday together.
Tonight we are going to have a game night. I am pretty certain that plenty of simple fun moments are going to happen especially since Grandma and Grandpa are joining us.
These are great – we do them all! I walk the dog anywhere from 5 – 5:30 every morning, and I love the serenity of it!
Yes! I love taking my dog for walks. It’s a great time to take a few minutes to relax and catch up on thinking.
