Fried green tomatoes are a Southern tradition. There’s nothing like plucking a still-warm tomato from the vine, coating it with a “secret blend” of seasoning, and deep-frying it to a mouthwatering crispness. Nothing that is, except all the fat and calories. We’ve taken this classic recipe and adapted it to the air fryer. You still get the same delicious taste but without some of the extras you don’t want. Are you ready for Southern-fried goodness? Check out our Fried Green Tomatoes with Garlic Aioli recipe.
Fried Green Tomatoes with Garlic Aioli Recipe
Fried green tomatoes taste great on their own, but this garlic aioli sauce makes them even better. But, it’s not a requirement. Feel free to enjoy these tomatoes either way!
Tips for Fried Green Tomatoes
*Chose firm green tomatoes with no bruises or soft spots.
*Slice the tomatoes to 1/2 inch thickness. Make them uniform in size so they cook evenly.
*Pat the tomatoes gently with a paper towel before draining to reduce excess moisture.
Tips for Using the Air Fryer:
*Line the tray with parchment paper before adding the tomatoes. This will keep the crumbs from collecting at the bottom of the tray.
*Be sure to spray the tomatoes with oil before and halfway through cooking to prevent them from overcooking or drying out.
*Remember that all models of air fryers cook at different temperatures and lengths. Use our guide as a general time/temperature and adjust as needed.

- Make Aioli:
- In a medium bowl, mix together mayonnaise, garlic, lemon juice, salt, and pepper until blended. Allow to set for 30 minutes for flavors to blend.
*Need it to be gluten-free? Use gluten-free cornmeal and gluten-free panko.
This is the recipe I use to make fried okra too. We don’t serve it with a sauce, but you do you and enjoy it however you like.
