Gluten Free Friday 17

Happy Friday! We seem to be fully into the heat of summer now, and schools are all out. Although our schedules may be changing a bit, there’s one thing that won’t change: it’s time for Gluten Free Friday! Each week, we partner with brands to bring you the latest and greatest in gluten free and allergy friendly foods. Although brands send us samples to try out, we only feature foods we actually eat. Between the multiple conflicting restricted diets in our household, we know what we like in the allergy friendly food world! This week we’re bringing you five brands you may or may not know of. Let’s get started!

1. Garden of Eatin’ makes organic products ranging from Bible Bread (contains wheat) to gluten free Nacho Cheese tortilla chips. We got a bag of Nacho Cheese tortilla chips and a bag of ranch tortilla chips. I only got to try a couple of the ranch flavor, because my family ate them before I could. That’s usually a good sign for the taste of a product! I’ve hidden the Nacho Cheese flavor in a secret spot where no one can find them before I eat them! (They’re in the microwave.) These are the closest thing I’ve gotten to some of my favorite old snacks, and I can’t wait to use them to make a walking taco.

Good For: snacks, school lunches, work lunches, cookouts, picnics

2. Sensible Portions makes veggie chips and veggie straws. We have actually used the veggie straws as snacks for my daughter before, but I had never heard of the veggie chips! I was excited to try them as we liked the veggie straws. The veggie chips are gluten free and cholesterol free, as well as kosher. Some flavors contain milk, which means they weren’t a safe snack for my FPIES daughter. That’s okay, because that means I can keep them to myself!

Good For: snacks, lunchboxes, picnics, cookouts, kids

3. Terra are chips made with exotic veggies, plantains, or sweet potatoes. I love freshly made plantain chips from a local restaurant, so I was afraid that I would be a chip snob and hate the Terra version. Not so! These are great with salsa, guacamole, or while standing in the kitchen at midnight hiding from the baby who refuses to sleep. We also got the summer blend of chips, which are red white and blue! It’s a poorly kept secret that I love blue potatoes, so these were a fun and tasty treat.

Good For: snacking, lunches, parties, cookouts, picnics

4. Kind Snacks  re nut, seed, and grain bars that come in a variety of flavors. We received several nut bars and some oat bars as well. I don’t eat oats because my daughter is allergic, but my mom eats KIND oat bars every morning for breakfast! When she traveled for two weeks recently, she even took a few boxes with her for snacks and breakfasts. I like to keep the nut bars in my purse or the diaper bag for a quick snack while I’m out and about. I was excited to try some flavors I had never seen before, like Thai Chili. A Thai Chili almond bar? Yeah, my attention was caught. If spicy isn’t your style, KIND also makes tamer flavors, like Dark Chocolate Nuts & Sea Salt.

Good For: on the go, snacking, lunch boxes, work lunch

5. Simple Mills Crackers makes a variety of products including cake mixes, frosting, and crackers. Although I have used their mixes before, this time we got to sample a variety of their crackers. Although my favorite flavor was the Smoky BBQ Cheddar, my daughter was able to eat the sea salt flavor on a road trip to Atlanta recently. They were a big hit! These are made with almond flour, so you’ll want to avoid them if you have a nut allergy. If not? Dig in! (But beware, they are thinner and crumblier than “normal” crackers, so you’ll want to supervise children closely to avoid a giant mess.)

Good For: snacks, topping or coating, eating with soup or salad

This is a great list! With my son’s classes I always try to find gluten free options for the kids (there’s usually at least 1 in each class that can’t have gluten) and don’t want to bring things they can’t have too! I’ll have to keep this list in mind
