Gluten Free Fridays 24

Welcome back to Gluten Free Friday! Every Friday, we share five gluten free and allergy friendly products that we think our readers know about. Since I have celiac and my daughter has food allergies, it can be hard to find food we actually enjoy eating. That’s why we’ve partnered with brands to bring you the latest and greatest in gluten free and allergy friendly foods! Although brands have sent us samples to try out, we only share our honest opinions, and we only share foods we love- and think you will love too! So, are you ready to see what we have this week?

Gluten Free Goodies

1. SunButter Natural Sunflower Spread– is an allergy-friendly solution for nut and peanut free schools. Miss packing your kids a PB&J? SunButter, which is made from sunflower seeds, has you covered. You can use this spread anywhere you would use peanut butter or almond butter! We’ve made cookies, SunButter pasta (it’s better than it sounds!), used it on sandwiches, and just about everything else you can think of. We like that SunButter is dairy and soy free, nut free, peanut free, and gluten free. We also like that it tastes great. Although we can eat peanut butter, we keep SunButter on hand just because we like it. It doesn’t hurt that it’s safe for our other friends with food allergies, too.

2. Nielsen Massey Almond Extract is the only brand of almond extract we keep in our kitchen. We love Nielsen Massey extracts because they’re allergen free (including the almond extract, check out the FAQ here. Unlike some extracts, which contain gluten and other allergens, Nielsen Massey prides themselves on creating extracts that are as pure as possible. Although we’ve tried other extracts, and we’ve even tried making our own, we always come back to Nielsen Massey extracts. If that hasn’t convinced you yet, Nielsen Massey products are organic, kosher, and non-GMO. Nielsen Massey also offers Fair Trade vanilla.

3. Canyon Bakehouse Blueberry and Cinnamon Raisin Bagels are new flavors from one of my favorite gluten free brands. I’ve always liked their plain bagels, which are perfect for eating plain or topped. I love the plain bagels with peanut butter and honey, so I was excited to see these new flavors! Canyon Bakehouse bagels are best toasted, or at least warmed. But then again, aren’t most bagels? Canyon Bakehouse also sent us Brownie Bites, which are one of my favorite gluten free desserts, and a loaf of Mountain White bread. Although I was excited to see those, I was more excited about waking up to flavored bagels every morning! My daughter also loves bagels, so I know she’ll love them- if I decide to share! We also received some Mountain White Bread, great for sandwiches and French Toast, and their brownie bites, which I love. This are so good warmed and topped with whipped cream.

4. La Victoria Salsa makes salsa, enchilada sauce, hot sauce, taco sauce, and chiles and peppers. We received Mango Habanero Salsa, which was right up my husband’s alley since he loves mangoes, and Salsa Brava. Now, we eat tacos once a week or more in our household, so I knew right away that these weren’t going to go to waste. After all, what’s a good taco without a little salsa? The Salsa Brava is a hot sauce, perfect for…well, just about anything. I like to put Salsa Brava on my omelettes, hashbrowns, or anything else that I think needs a little spice. The Mango Habanero is a medium salsa, so it has enough kick to make me happy, but it’s a tolerable spice level for my husband. He’s kind of a wimp when it comes to spicy! The Salsa Brava is hot, so it’s all mine, and I’m happy with that.

5. Molly & Drew Gluten Free Beer Bread  is the first gluten free beer bread mix that I’ve seen since going gluten free in 2012. I always loved a good loaf of beer bread with some of my mom’s homemade soup, so I had high hopes for this. It calls for one gluten free beer, which is not included. We picked up some hard cider, which is what was suggested. Hard cider tastes a little different than beer, but I’ve always preferred the taste of hard cider. If you don’t like hard cider, another gluten free beer or even a soda could work in this mix. This one is tasty, although we will probbly use a stronger hard cider in the future. It had a nice crust with a soft inside. We plan to use this with hearty fall and winter meals, like soup.
