“I don’t even know what gluten is,” exclaimed the woman standing in front of me, when offered a slice of Gluten Free pizza. I’ve felt like I have been fighting an uphill battle since my daughter was diagnosed with Celiac disease. Most people I’ve encountered in our area are unsure what gluten is and, though well meaning, don’t understand the risk of cross contamination. That’s why I was thrilled when I visited Walmart on January 24th and discovered they had teamed with several major gluten free brands to raise awareness through their Gluten Free For Less event.
I’m sure some of you are wondering, What is gluten? I admit, I didn’t know either until my daughter was diagnosed with Celiac.
Gluten is proteins found in wheat (durum, emmer, spelt, farina, farro, khorasan wheat and einkorn), rye, barley and triticale. It helps holds food together and can be found lurking in many types of foods, even ones you wouldn’t expect.
When we first began the Gluten Free diet with my daughter, we had no idea where to start. There were not a lot of gluten free choices available. Even worse, my daughter felt she was denied her favorite snacks, Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, Pizza, Snack Bars. She could no longer go out to eat with friends because of limited menu options. Now, thanks to these brands, she’s able to enjoy her favorite foods. Even better, they actually taste good!
We even found a “new to us” snack, Van’s PB&J Bars, available in Blueberry and Strawberry. The Strawberry bars are obviously a hot seller, because I checked at three different Walmart Stores in our area, and all of them were sold out.

It’s so hard for kids when they can’t have everything their friends are having. I’m glad Walmart is making it easier to find some of her favorites!
Love all the great brands providing gluten free options at Walmart. I am trying the Clif Bars at my house.
Walmart is doing a great job of helping cute food costs for those of us with allergies and food sensitivities.
These are great Gluten-Free options. I will go to Wal-mart and try them.
Gluten free tasted great! A lot of people think it would be horrible but it’s not!
I have noticed a huge difference in how I feel when I eat gluten and when I don’t eat gluten. I am beginning to think I might even have an intolerance for gluten. Thankfully now I can shop at Walmart and find some great alternatives.

Gluten free products are tasting better better.
Amazing the variety of GF choices now. Still could use more but have seen a rise in food choices the last couple of years.

More and more places are offering gluten-free products and I’m always surprised when I can’t tell the difference.
I do see the door becoming more and more wide open for great gluten-free choices. I love that people take the ball and run when presented with a challenge (how to make gluten-free taste good being a prime example).
It is amazing how in such little time so many great products are readily available for gluten free diets. It makes it so easy to host everyone at home these days
There are so many Gluten Free products now which is fantastic for people that suffer from Celiac disease. Sounds like Walmart has a nice selection.
I love how many gluten-free choices they have for people on modified diets. They actually taste delicious too.

One of my favorite breakfasts in the world is gluten free. It just tastes better than the other stuff. (Oatmeal)

I was pleasantly surprised by the taste of the GF products! I kind of expected them to be not as tasty.

I am glad you find ways to eat a tasty food. I always wondered if Gluten free food tasted good or not.
I do gluten free too. I also do dairy and sugar free. Hard to find myself food that is all of those.
I have been eating Gluten Free and I feel so much better. I love the Udi’s pizza, but I haven’t been able to find it at our Walmart yet.
When I buy waffles, I buy Van’s. They’re really tasty. We’re not gluten free in our house, but I use several gluten free products.
Oh I LOVE Udis pizza! I can even get my 6 year old to eat it with no problems!
