Have you ever had a Christmas when nothing went as planned? I have. My father had just died. I reluctantly put up a Christmas tree and stuck a wreath on the door, but I had no Christmas spirit. The kids were horrified that Christmas Eve dinner was not being planned. “It’s a tradition,” they wailed. Little did I know that, five years later, we’d still laugh about the events that followed. Sometimes things that go wrong at Christmas can turn into something very right. That’s the premise behind The Christmas Club premiering Wednesday, November 27th at 8pmEST/7pmCST on Hallmark Channel.
What’s the scoop on The Christmas Club?
It’s the story of two busy strangers, Olivia Bennett and Edward Taylor, played by Elizabeth Mitchell and Cameron Mathison, who meet when they help an elderly woman find her lost Christmas savings. Thanks to fate and Christmas magic, they also find something they were both missing: true love.

As for our long-ago Christmas- “I put you in charge of Christmas Eve dinner,” I told the kids. “Plan a menu and surprise me.” This was my first mistake. Armed with my debit card, they headed to the store to find “something that sounded good.” They returned with arms full of groceries, big smiles, and smug expressions. “We’re going to have our favorite foods this year!” they said, as they shooed me out of the kitchen.
The kids had done a lovely job of setting the table when I returned for dinner. The Christmas glasses twinkled in the light. “All right,” my daughter exclaimed, clapping her hands, “Here’s what we’ve got.” Spread before us were dishes of sausage cheese dip, broccoli and cheese soup, cheddar cheese biscuits, cheese potatoes, cheesecake, and not surprisingly, a charcuterie with several varieties of cheese cubes. “It’s the Christmas of Cheese!” Let’s just say the rest of the family was not as impressed as the kids. As I burst out laughing for the first time that season, I knew everything would be okay. It might not have been as perfect Hallmark movie ending, but it was perfect for me.
