Monster Popcorn Crunch & Eyeball Punch

October and November are fun months in our family.  I enjoy celebrating Halloween almost as much as the kids.  We plan a party with friends, dress up the dog, and pass out treats.  This year, while shopping at World Market, I found  something new.  Have you heard of the upcoming film, The Book of Life, appearing in theaters on October 17th? It’s based on the cultural celebration of “Dia de los Muertos” (Day of the Dead),which is a day devoted to remembering the memories of lost loved ones.  The film is an animated Romeo and Juliet inspired love story featuring Tatum Channing as a matador who wants to be a musician.  Manolo is competing to win the love of Zoe and will have to face his greatest fears to reinvent his destiny.   I was quick to incorporate them into fun Dia de los Muertos and Halloween recipes for  kids, including this fun Popcorn Monster Mix that’s perfect for snacking before seeing The Book of Life.
Popcorn Monster Mix

By now you know almost everything I make has to be easy.  This recipe is simple enough for the kids to spend an afternoon mixing up their own concoctions.  I started with a Book of Life Tin Keepsake box and some packaged Halloween Candies.  I poured the candies into different Halloween containers, placed the popcorn in a small resealable plastic sandwich bag, and set out cups. I made my snacks like a parfait with layers of popcorn and candies, but the kids were happy to simply mix candy and popcorn in plastic bags. For fun I topped my concoctions with a candy jelly eyeball.  I bought Book of Life Swirly Slime to play with after the kids were through snacking. Slime and a snack, what more could you ask for?

To wash our Popcorn Monster Crunch down, I made Orange Eyeball Punch.  With only three ingredients this is a snap to put together but looks so spooky.  For each drink I mixed 1/2 cup  Lorina Blood Orange drink and 1/4 cup Bubble Up soda.  I topped each drink with 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream and a jelly eyeball.  It looks spooky, but I told you it was simple!
