Helping Others this Summer with CAUSEBOX

The Sevenly CAUSEBOX is a quarterly subscription box featuring ethical products from around the world. Sevenly, a company known for donating 7% of each purchase to charity, has long been one of my favorite companies. When we were offered the chance to check out their CAUSEBOX, , we jumped on it. Not literally, of course. In our last CAUSEBOX, we got plenty of products that are still in use today, like a fast-drying towel that helps people in Haiti. We were sure that this CAUSEBOX would be just as neat- and it surpassed our expectations. Retailing for $49.95/box, each CAUSBOX has at least $150 worth of goods from Sevenly’s favorite companies.

In this box, I was most excited to see the KeepCup, a reusable coffee cup made in Australia and assembled right here in the good ole US of A. It’s BPA and BPS free, dishwasher and microwave safe, and totally cute. The fun blue lid and orange grip make this cup stand out from the other reusable coffee cups out there, as does its solid construction. Bonus: each cup helps reduce paper and plastic waste by cutting down on the number of disposable coffee cups and lids each consumer goes through! The KeepCup retails for $17.

Next in the box, I noticed the Bumba Necklace by Musana. Handmade by Ethiopian artisans, this beautiful blue and gold necklace has a nametag attached with a picture and name of the person who made it. Even cooler, it allows you to go online and read the story of the woman who made your necklace, which makes it personal. Musana is a nonprofit that offers education and employment for women in order to break the cycle of poverty. Each necklace retails for $36.

This box was accessory-heavy, but once you hear about the next two pieces, you’ll know why. A Parker Clay headband and upcycled wrap necklace, both made of quality Ethiopian leather, are two beautiful statement pieces. Leather may be tight on your wrist or head at first, but it stretches over time. The bracelet has a large metal ring in the middle, which no one would guess was made out of bullets from the Ethiopian countryside. The bullets are found, melted down, and transformed into jewelry to make a statement when things of war are turned into things of beauty. Parker Clay provides prostitution prevention programs for women, and rehabilitate women in the commercial sex industry by partnering with a local Ethiopian organization. I love the statement behind these pieces, and I love that they’re affordable. The wrap bracelet goes for $48, and the headband costs only $16.

In the non-wearable category, another of my favorites from this box is made locally (for me) in Nashville, Tennessee. Everly Hydrating Drink mixes not only flavor your water without any preservatives or artificial colors, they also provide oral rehydration salts for children around the world. In the CAUSEBOX, we got one packet of Pomegranate Maqui Berry, one packet of Peach Mango, and one packet of Green Tea Passion Fruit. That’s enough for three 16.9 ounce bottles of water! I’m currently hiding the peach mango flavor from my husband, because it’s his favorite flavor combination and I’ve claimed these as my own.

When my mom opened the box, she was drawn to a face cream by Love for Humanity organics. It’s vegan, cruelty free, and organic- plus it smells delicious! Mom tested it out by rubbing it on her hand, and it definitely seemed as nourishing as it promised. With a coconut and lemon scent, this was a perfect pick for a summer CAUSEBOX. While I love that they don’t test on animals, my favorite part of Love for Humanity is that they provide a meal for the malnourished with each product sold. This face cream retails for $58, but a little goes a long way!

Rounding out the box is the required Sevenly product. I loved last month’s mirror cling, and this limited edition print is just as inspiring. The illustration and calligraphy remind us that when life gives us lemons, we need to make lemonade! When this print was available in Sevenly’s marketplace, it was a best-seller. Now, it’s only available to summer CAUSEBOX subscribers. This print retailed for $24.

Finally, an item that’s close to my heart and the last in this season’s CAUSEBOX: “Living on One,” the special edition DVD. This film focuses on four students from university who spend a summer living in Rural Guatemala, surviving on $1 a day. They recorded their experiences, which then went viral on Youtube, and were collected into this film. Although I haven’t gotten around to watching it yet, I have friends who are from rural Guatemala and who still have family in Guatemala, so this product hit close to home. I can’t wait to watch it, but I know it’s going to be heart-wrenching as it opens my eyes even more to the experiences of extreme poverty.

Since the CAUSEBOX is quarterly, they’re able to spend lots of time collecting and curating thoughtful products. Sevenly’s motto is “People Matter,” and the products (and the stories behind them) really exemplify that.
Do you get any subscription boxes?
