The story of the Titanic has fascinated me since I was a child. How did a ship billed as “unsinkable” manage to collide with an iceberg? How could the White Star line be so woefully unprepared? The stories of courage and heroism displayed that night so long ago are brought to life at the Titanic Museum in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Tip: If you have never been to through Sevierville, plan plenty of time for stop and go traffic no matter what season or what time of day.
The journey into the past begins with a welcoming crew member, dressed in period costume of the Titanic Crew, who assigns everyone with the name and short biography of a passenger or crew member aboard the ship during the fatal voyage. At the end of the tour, we passed through the Memorial room, which lists all the passengers, to determine if we survived. It’s a poignant reminder and helps keep their memory alive. Tip: Ask the friendly and knowledgeable crew members about your card, they can fill in extra details.
Our day at the Titanic brought history to life with the unveiling of Wallace Hartley’s violin. Mr. Hartley was the leader of the first class orchestra, playing nightly to people who likely ignored the music in order of more luxurious pursuits. Mr. Hartley forever earned a place in history by remaining calm and playing music for the increasingly frantic passengers until he was unable to play any longer. Amazingly, the violin has been found and will be on display for a limited time in the US, from May 22nd until July 27th at the Pigeon Forge location and from August 1st through 15th in the Branson, Missouri location. Tip: Photographs are not allowed to be taken inside the museum, but they are allowing photographs of the violin.

I’ve been to a Titanic museum in Cork, Ireland (the last piece of land the Titanic was before it sunk) but I’ve never been to this one. This would be a great place to take the family when the kiddos are older. Thanks for sharing, I never knew there was one there.
Oh, I would love to go to that museum, so much history. One of these days we will be taking a trip of the East of the US for vacation. This looks like a good stop along the way.
