Homemade Potato Chips Recipe

Homemade Potato Chips

We’ve been experimenting with recreating some of our favorite snacks at home. Potato Chips are a kid favorite and, while I wouldn’t recommend serving them with every meal, are great for an occasional snack or a treat when friends come over. I’ve also had to make sure we are gluten free–no easy task, I can assure you–when my daughter eats with us. These homemade chips are so easy to make and require so few ingredients that you may never go back to purchasing chips at the store again. They can also be adapted to make many different varieties, including Bar-b-que, cheese flavored and more.

A simple homemade chip that can be prepared in a few minutes and can be adapted for different tastes.
Ingredients
  • 2 medium potatoes, very thinly sliced
  • salt, pepper to taste
  • Oil for deep frying
Instructions
  1. Thinly slice potatoes and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Heat oil in a skillet, adding enough to make sure potatoes are covered. Cook for five minutes, turning once.
  2. Remove from heat and drain on paper towels. Serve while warm.

Here’s some tips for easy variations:

  • Cheese Potato Chips: Sprinkle with your favorite flavor of grated cheese or with canned Parmesan cheese.
  • Greek Potato Chips: Sprinkle potatoes with a teaspoon of Greek Seasoning immediately after removing from heat.
  • Dill Potato Chips: Mince 1/4 cup fresh dill and sprinkle over chips before serving.

These potato chips are good served plain but are also good served with dip. We made a simple dill dip to serve with our chips using 1/2 cup sour cream and 1/4 cup chopped fresh dill.  Mix the ingredients together and let set for one hour for flavors to mix.
