How a Dog Saved My Life

I have partnered with Purina to let you know about #DogThanking, but all opinions are my own.
Have you ever had a bad day? I know I have.  Dealing with snippy people at work, traffic jams, stopping by the store to pick up one item I had to have only to have to wait 45 minutes in line while I must be somewhere else. Those are the days I am especially thankful for our dogs. Granted I’m thankful for them every day since they provide unconditional love and are always happy to see me, but on these days it’s good to know you are coming home to find someone waiting at the door, tail wagging. Someone who will put their head in your lap when you’re sad or curl up beside you.  That’s why I am super excited to participate in the Purina #DogThanking program, explaining why I am thankful for my dogs we own now and all the dogs we have owned in the past.

We even have a “how a dog saved our lives story.” One night, when I was a newborn, my mother had our German Shepherd, Tinker, inside the house with her while my dad worked second shift. She heard a commotion in our garage and opened the door into the garage to find an intruder, carrying a gun.  Tinker attacked the intruder, getting gravely wounded in the process, while my mom called the police. I also assume there was general screaming and panicking, but in the end we were saved, thanks to Tinker’s bravery.

Do you have a dog you want to thank for enriching your life? This November, Purina wants everyone to thank the four-legged friends who make our lives special.  From November 2nd  through the Thanksgiving holiday, Purina is inviting dog owners to log on to Facebook, Twitter or Instagam and tell the world why they are so thankful for their dog.  For every original post that includes @Purina and #dogthanking, Purina will donate one dollar to the AKC Canine Health Foundation – up to $75,000 – to help keep our pets healthy.  Submitted videos, photos and posts may be shown during the National Dog Show Presented by Purina, which airs at noon (in all time zones) on Thanksgiving Day on NBC.

Dogs are such an amazing pet – Sal’s saved my life multiple times, she’s the reason I got out of an abusive relationship and I do think if I hadn’t I would be dead – she also looks after me when my depression is bad, she used to pin my arms down when I went to self harm and refuse to move. x
