How To Make A Road Trip Care Package

Here’s another secret mom confession; I love to travel, but I hate the drive on road trips. I’ve heard, “How much longer?” so many times. And that’s just from me, nevermind all the times I’ve heard it from the kids.  To combat the problem with the kids, I made a”Kid Friendly Travel Bag, including things like a few new low-cost toys and books, their favorite snacks, and some road trip games.  It worked so well I decided, Why not make the same thing for myself? I call it my Road Trip Care Package.  It’s chock full of good ideas to make sure I arrive at my destination in a good mood. Here’s how to make a Road Trip Care Package for yourself.

Road Trip Care Package Ideas

I started with a bag to carry my supplies. I like this personalized Black Mesh Tote Bag for several reasons. I’m always digging through my purse (called the bottomless pit by my family) trying to find needed items. I’m able to find the items I need quickly and easily in this tote. It’s personalized so I don’t need to worry about losing it, and, bonus, during tailgating season I’m able to carry it into SEC games because it is see through. Trust me. You don’t want to find your purse is a no-go when you get to the gate.
Coloring Books

I find that working in my adult coloring books helps me to relax so they’ve become a staple on every road trip we take. If I don’t use them, I notice one of the other passengers usually does.  Another good tip is to add a small “necessities” kit with all the medication you might need.  I’ve added headache medicine, stomach ache relief medicine, motion sickness medicine, and allergy medication.  I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve had to stop and buy these items. It’s much easier and cheaper to have them on hand.  The trick to a good care package is to add items you will enjoy.  Here’s a list of items I add to my road trip care package.
Colored pencils

Good Additions To Road Trip Care Packages

Adult Coloring Books– I added five to my package so I have one to match my moods. It also gives me plenty to share with others in the car with me.
Markers- I added Crayola Fine Tip Markers in Classic and Contemporary Colors
Colored Pencils- I added Crayola Watercolor Pencils, Metallic Colors Pencils, and Original Colored Pencils
A Small Portable Pencil Sharpener
A Pencil Box (to hold all the pencils and keep them from scattering around the car)
Favorite Snacks (no one wants to be around me when I am “hangry”)
A car charger for my phone
A Small “Necessities” Kit with headache medication, tissues, and band-aids
A book

I keep the bag in the car at all times because we all have those days when we have to park and wait for someone.  What would you include in your Road Trip Care Package Bag?
